We had two rooms at the Mecure for 6 nights and very happy with our stay.
The hotel is well located and if your rooms are quiet if not facing the streets.
As this was off peak it was really value for money. It could have been better if the hotel had a computer in their lobby where one could check email; this was available at the Ibis hotel in Solo Indonesia. I kind of expected this facility to be available.

I do not think that one can book a room with twin bed this TCG as these rooms are much larger and must command a higher price. TCG should not advertise twin bed is such booking is not possible. But short of not being able to secure twin bed room.

I am happy with the hotel and TCG. Thanks

The Grand Mercure is set as a pleasant European-style turn of the century building with a series of 15 steps up to the small reception area. Unfortunately, although there was plenty of staff in the reception area we were left to lug our suitcases from the taxi up to reception ourselves. Was this a sign on things to come?

We were told that whilst we had booked superior room this format doesnft come with a king size bed but twin beds and were informed that the standard rooms were equally well appointed and are the same price. The manager had some attitude and assured us that this was a 5-star hotel. We chose the king size bedroom. The room is well finished but is TINY.

Overall, the staff tried hard but my sense is that the supply of labor with even a smattering of English is small so overall service is average.

A few gripes. The facilities of the hotel are all in the separate buildings forming this suite of hotels with most being in either the East or West Wing of the Sofotel. As we had arrived around 9.30pm we looked through the brochure in the room and selected the Brazilian bar for a snack attracted by the promise of Tapas nibbles. We arrived only to find a terrible house band belting out songs and to find that the definition of Tapas was restricted to Pizza slices and mixed fruit? Have I missed a serious change in the definition of Tapas in the past year or so?

So we move over to the 24hr International restaurant. Decent menu and glad to see a 24hr menu in a very pleasant modern décor. The menu looked nice but the promised pasta mix with tomatoes and fresh herbs appeared to be more of a standard jar of pasta sauce.

The gym and pool facilities at the hotel again situated in the Sofitel are very nice. The gym does adjoin the pool so if you prefer your workout at less than 85 degrees think again. The aircon was set to maximum but to no avail. If you want your workout accompanied by the cleaner watching the Chinese soap ope

The superior room we booked doesn’t come with a king size bed but twin beds. In the end, we downgrade to a lower grade smaller king size bed room, but were charged the same price.

A few gripes. The facilities of the hotel are all in the separate buildings forming this suite of hotels with most being in either the East or West Wing of the Sofotel.

Housekeeping in general at the hotel was awful. The rooms come with 3 very large and soft bathtowels but when your room isn’t cleaned until 3.30pm at the earliest it becomes an issue unless you tend to bathe only once a day when it’s over 100 fahrenheit outside.

On our final day, to add insult to injury, we arrived back at 7.30pm to find our room door open. Open? It had been cleaned but when? Who knows how long it had been left open and luckily no-one had decided to help themselves to any of our belongings but to me this is totally unacceptable so we immediately complained. The duty manager did come up to apologise personally and did confirm that they would be re-emphasising that leaving the door open could not re-occur (note that it was definitely inferred that this was a recrurring complaint). They offered some fruit for our room which we declined. (It was our last night and we weren’t in the mood for fruit). Half an hour later a bottle of wine arrived. A nice touch even if it was a bottle of the very unfortunate Chine wine from the “Great Wallwinery.

Overall, a disappointing stay. At the Grand Mercure you’re paying for a decidedly 3-star hotel with 5-star services thrown in down the road at Sofitel. If that’s what looking for go for it but buyer beware.
