I will say that we really enjoyed our stay at Mirage Hotel. It is within walking distance of shopping areas. I didn't check out any of the stores because I was exhausted from dealing with China Southern and taxi drivers, both metered and private. The night manager, Jack Zheng, spoke to me personally about the bus which doesn't go there, thereby saving us from making a big mistake. A private driver there phoned him for me, and, unfortunately, I thought it was a hoax, so we didn't ride with him. The metered taxi driver, as I mentioned before, left his meter turned off and asked for 100 yuan. In spite of it all, we loved the Mirage. The day manager was also very helpful. The breakfast exceeded our expectations. The people there were so nice, helpful and polite.

IF we ever go back to Urumqi, we will stay at the Mirage. That will be after the Chinese government drops its visa fee from its current exorbitant rate of $300 back down to a reasonable $50. Our trip to China was disappointing; our stay at Mirage was delightful.

Definitely 5-star quality service! The lobby managers were extremely helpful, especially Jack Zheng. We really enjoyed the royal treatment we received there!

I stayed here in Oct. 07 it is a very nice hotel. I have no complaints. I do think a 5 start rating is a bit high but I would certainly stay there again.
