From the moment I checked in until the day I left, the staff were very friendly and efficient. I was very pleased and pleasantly surprised to see how clean and organized my room was. I stayed 10 days and not a single day did I find anything to complaint about. Not once did I have to request anything twice. Whenever I needed something it was promptly delivered. I would like to thank all the staff for making my first trip to Shanghai a memorable one. Now I am planning my second trip there and I will definitely make this hotel my hotel of choice. Is conveniently located, the staff were very helpful, the place was very clean and you can not beat the price!! I highly recommend this hotel.

It was very ridiculous attitude of your staff on reception. I made all reservation and reached in time and they created an issue of passport of my wife. I gave them my passport but they created a big problem for me as they were demanding the passport of my wife which was submitted with Chinese visas office for extension. I gave them certificate also given by my college about this. But did not listen any thing. I think the staff on duty on 21 June ant 3 PM was very discourteous including the manager. I told them to put me through to some senior staff which they refused flatly.

It was very much obnoxious Behaviors. I will never like to come to the hotel again and will also tell my friends about this.

[+][+][+] TCG reply:
Dear Mr. Naseem,
Thank you so much for your kind and sincere reply.
We do have informed the hotel about your kind comments. The hotel staff is sincerely sorry for their service and will try their best to improve their service in the coming days. About the issue you stated, we were informed that the local public security organ has very strict regulations regarding to the foreigners who stay overnight in Shanghai. Guests' valid passport, identification card or other valid certificates are necessary when check in at the hotel. So, the hotel insisted you and your wife to show the passports. Hope for your kind understanding.

The service of TCG was excellent.
However, the hotel was unsatisfactory in many ways:

1. There is no 24 hour heating facility in the rooms! They turn on the heat at 10 pm only. We were there toward the end of November which I would suppose is winter time. The room was freezing and we would have to wait for the heat until 10 pm. Sometimes the heating would be turned on at 10:30 pm only. I dont know about the airconditioning in the summer, suppose they follow the same rules?!

2. The hotel staff barely know English. It is very difficult to communicate with them. When I had stomach ache and wanted a doctor, they said that they cannot provide one but would instead send a painkiller medication. When the person came to the room, he brought a blanket and pillow! So much for communications in English.

3. They are very stingy with toilet paper! I dont know why they wouldnt put a few rolls of toilet paper in the rooms to start off with. I had half a roll in the room. The next time I checked in again after my visit to Beijing - again quarter roll of toilet paper. I called the reception when I was out of paper and they brought it only after repeatedly calling thrice!

4. As mentioned by another guest, the bed is hard which will be very uncomfortable for most Westerners.

5. The hotel does not have a large lobby or lounge area.

6. The carpets are dirty and needs shampooing.

We stayed for 6 nights altogether and although its not the cleanest of hotels, its okay and definately good value. In the city and near 94 bus stop, and that goes to subway train.

It's a lot easier to navigate if you can speak Chinese.
Its quite modern and has a young atmopshere - lots of Chinese couples.
