Nanmen Hotel, Lijiang, started its business in 2004 and installed in 2006, was built as the standard of three-star. The hotel was located at the "World Culture Heritage"--the south door community of Lijiang Ancient City, on the back of Lion Mountain, neighboring the pilgrimage shrine of Prince Mu—"Baima Longtan Temple". It faces Yulong Mountain and the traffic is convenient, and it only takes you about five minutes to walk to the Square Street of the ancient city. The hotel structure is based on the traditional Naxi dwellings. There are carved beams and painted rafters in the yards, and you can enjoy the excellent scene and famous calligraphies and paintings at all directions, which showed the essence of Naxi folkways. There are a variety of 52 rooms in simple and elegant style. The cold and hot water is available the whole day, and hotel also offers other services, such as organize the tourists to view the Naxi ancient music, air tickets booking, travel agency service, and so on.

As a three-star hotel, the room is a little small and not very clean. Carpet is cleaned often. The only strongpoint is its location. It is just inside the ancient town.

Nanmen Hotel, Lijiang was a clean and a nice hotel. We found it extremely difficult to find the place because the hotel surrounding was compact with very similar buildings and it is hard for someone visiting first time to locate the hotel. But it was very convenient as the hotel was in fact inside the Old Town of Lijiang. The main problems we faced were:
Staff does not understand or speak English. There was one girl working in the back office during our time who helped us. They cut hot water service during 1.30pm to 6.30pm during which time you cannot use washrooms in case if you happen to be in rooms during this period. Mind you the weather is extremely chill there.
Other than above, it was a nice experience at the Nanmen Hotel, Lijiang.
With my best reards,
Suchintha

Was not easy to find amongst the other hotels/inns in old town. Only one staff person spoke English and made check out difficult. Chinese and Western buffet had little to no Western food. NO HOT WATER in the morning! Average room temperature was a bit chilly. Unique location, but not ideal for westerns.

I was a little disappointed with the Nan men hotel in Lijiang. When I arrived at the hotel the staff insisted I pay for breakfast. I made it very clear to them that I do not eat Chinese breakfast, I only eat western breakfast and I will not pay for something I do not want. I was then sent to another hotel. This was my only problem with this hotel, otherwise everything else was ok.
Thank you
TCG reply:
Dear Sir, we have just contacted the hotel about this, and there must be some misunderstanding due to the language barriers.
Actually, there are 3 separate buildings in the hotel. When you arrived at the hotel, the hotel was cleaning the carpets in the buidling 1 where the room you have reserved is located. Then, the hotel staff suggested you staying at the room in the building 3. Lastly, you agreed. Thus, you were not sent to another hotel, but just stayed in the hotel's another building.
As for the breakfast, the staff said they didn't say any words to ask you to pay for the Chinese breakfast, since the room rate already included one Chinese breakfast. Hope for your better understanding.
