We had a great experience staying at the Pine Ridge lodge this weekend. The staff was extremely friendly. They sent a car to pick us up from the bus stop in town, and they gave us great advice on how to get on the mountain and what to do there. My friend also tripped and sprained her ankle on the stairs, and the nice ladies at the hotel spent all day taking care of her. While the rest of us went hiking on the mountain, they made her tea, kept ice on her foot, cooked her lunch, and called in an English-speaking Chinese doctor to massage her ankle. They did this all for free--they wouldn't accept our gratuity afterward. This hotel has a great location and I would highly recommend it.

First, our Huangshan trip...... this hotel was very accommodating and the staff extremely helpful, considerate, and enjoyable. They were always very happy! They held our room way into the night due to flight delays and helped to guide us to the hotel as we went along. They even waited for us to wake and still served us breakfast.
The food is very common everyday Chinese food and is really very good. Some westerners may have taste issue, but you are staying locally here and it should be looked at as an opportunity to be part of this everyday life. The location is very close to Yellow Mountain and other fine natural beauty spots, but it is not walkable, and they will arrange taxi.
The room was maybe too plain for a deluxe accommodation as there was no small refrigerator and no tea or coffee was offered in the room. There is no store immediately close to buy these things. The king bed was actually 2 twins put together, which was OK and comfortable. The room was of good size, but there was no floor covering, such as carpet, so very cold.
I would stay there again, although if I wanted more standard deluxe accommodations I may choose one of the other large hotels in the town.
I hope these views are helpful and once again I thank you TCG for helping to make our travels more enjoyable with less stress. As I mentioned in my last email, your service has been outstanding and very prompt, and I really do appreciate this service. I stayed at this hotel in January 2010. I highly recommend this hotel. It is tucked away in a quiet corner but within walking distance from the shops. It is also within walking distance from the entrance to Huangshan (where you take a taxi to the cable car station). I had personal attention from the owner, Wayne. He was extremely helpful to me and made several recommendations on food and travel up to Hunagshan and around the region. The staff was also very nice and helpful. I could not have been more grateful for the service I received.
