We were in the Pingjiang lodge at Suzhou in July 2010.
It was very good spotted and it was totally off the hook because someone build it and lived there in the XIV century, the rooms are as big as apartments and everything is decorated like it was back then. The bathtub is made of wood and everything is very clean, and the whole hotel is like a labyrinth. The front desk staff is very very kind and useful, their English is good too. The breakfast area is in another building and the food is very good but we always preferred the American breakfast. The hotel is a little expensive but it is worth it, we dream to go back there. Travelchinaguides service was very good and the personal attention of Miss. Sara Liu was exceptional and fast.

I was very happy with the TCG booking service. It was very easy to use.

We enjoyed our stay at Pingjiang Lodge very much. It was so peaceful and has a lovely atmosphere and best of all was very quiet. The location is perfect for exploring the city of Suzhou and enjoying the history of the old town. Everything you need is within easy walking distance. There are cafes close by and lovely shops selling local crafts. Getting up early and taking the camera you get to take photos of local people going about their daily life like fishing in the canal, having their wedding photos taken; going to market. The Lodge has modern facilities combined with ancient charm and was a welcome break from Shanghai.

Thank you for all you assistance.

If you are looking for a hotel, out of the way, reminding how Ming dinasty.
China must have looked like. If you also have a romantic mind: This is your place!

From the outside the Lodge does not impress.
When entering the hotel however, you might immediately feel like having crossed back into the past.
The whole building, including the furniture should set you into this mood.
The impeccably clean rooms and sizeable bathrooms are divided by little gardens.
The lobby plus the tea-room are pure old China. People are friendly and trying hard to understand and serve you with smiles. No skyscrapers around. Romantic channels and houses around. A real experience!
