Not like an international hotel. Very local. All management staff are local.

Mr. Lee Chee Peng(Singapore) said:

As a newly built hotel, Holiday Inn Nanpu's basic facilities were good. Front desk & Concierge was very prompt with my requests.

But I was very very disappointed with the cafeteria services. Being an international brand name hotel, the services at the cafeteria was way below par. Our plates were removed without our permission even though we have not finished our meal. Coffee was served without a teaspoon. The chef at the egg counter during breakfast don't even understand what's a over-easy egg!

It's really absurd. I will not stay at that hotel in future, not with this kind of service.

Feedback the above to Holiday Inn. Let's see what's their reply.

[+][+][+] Hotel Reply:
Dear Mr. Lee,

Firstly, my utmost apologies for your unpleasant experience during your stay at our hotel.

I would appreciate, if I could explain about your bad experience in the coffee shop during your stay. The hotel was re-branded to the Holiday Inn Nanpu in December 2008. Previously, the hotel was operated as a Best Western Franchise. We are now in the process of training the staff according to Holiday Inn Brand Standards. Unfortunately some staff takes longer time than others to learn new standards especially in the Food & Beverage Department.

I am aware that this is the fault of the hotel but I would appreciate it if you would come back to our hotel during your next stay in Shanghai and give us one more chance to make your stay a truly good and memorable experience.

Please do contact me if you decide your next stay in Shanghai to be at the Holiday Inn Nanpu. Thank you very much for your valuable comment and feedback which I will definitely integrate into our training program.

Sincerely,

Colin Thumboo
Director of Food & Beverage
Holiday Inn Nanpu

Dear Lena,
I am really grateful to you for your services, it was quite helpful.

The hotel was good, facility excellent and staff very helpful. The location is good.

I would always use your booking center in my future travels to China. I was particularly impressed when your staff called me just minutes after I filled the booking online, such smart people

Yours truly,
Shehu Y. Saad

Dear Lena,

We had a very pleasant trip. The pre-arranged bookings lead to peace of mind. Both Hotels come highly recommended.

The staff at Best Western went out of their way, late at night to assist us with arrangements for our next day's meetings. This was really impressive, and a big thank you to them for this extra effort.

I have already recommended your service to a colleague of mine.

Best regards

Stayed here for 2 days while on business in Shanghai. Very new hotel and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. All staff spoke English and hotel has currency exchange and guests can use foreign credit cards for deposit and payment. Rooms are top notch in this 4 star hotel with lots of amenities. Chinese and Western style breakfast available in the morning. Fresh fruit and pasties also available. High Speed Internet access in the rooms and WiFi available in the lobby and restaurant as well. Hotel does not have a gift shop available but staff are very helpful in getting you whatever you need and the concierge desk is very helpful in getting items for you and recommending places to visit, providing directions, translation, etc.

Hotel is only about 5-8 minute taxi ride away from the MagLev station for a short 8 minute ride to Pudong International Airport (by taxi it's probably 30-45 minutes so recommend using the MagLev which is super fast and a very nice bullet train - Cost 50 RMB). Hotel is located in a nice area in Western Pudong District across the river from downtown close to a metro station (Lancun Station), about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The metro system in Shanghai is well organized and easy to use. Staff available to help if you need assistance. It's close to being on par with Singapore transit system and efficient as well as very cost effective. Taxis are always available in front and it's only a short drive across the bridge to downtown.

Note: If you check in at the front desk, the rate is about $114 USD per night for their discounted rate including breakfast. But if you use the Best Western Website, the room can be booked for around $85 - $100 USD per night including breakfast.
