I'm happy to report a story in Qufu. The Queli Hotel, Qufu was true to its advertisement - it was excellent in all respects. Thanks to TCG for your service over the past three years.

With good wishes,

We visited the hometown of Confucius and stayed at this hotel. The hotel was located right next to Confucius' Mansion, so you couldn't get any more central than that. The hotel lobby was very nice. I had to say this hotel was also with a nice lobby but trashed rooms like many Chinese hotels. This was likely a very nice hotel at one time, but now sadly, the room I was in was worn and dated. The bed was very hard, just like the wooden board covered with a piece of foam. Free internet access was available in the room, but I supposed it was only thing made us satisfied.

Dear Travel China Guide,

Yes, your service provided the reservations as promised without any problems to speak of.

1. The Hotel in Qufu was the best. It was outstanding, marvelous even. Excellent all around. I would recommend it without question. The hotel staff generally was very courteous & friendly, providing excellent hotel services (access to computer room, laundry, directions about the city of Qufu & travel to Tai An, very helpful lessons coaching me how to pronounce Chinese words, even interesting channels on tv). The building was very recent, modern in design, but with tasteful allusions to the historic past of Qufu, and in the architectural details. I spent six nights there and was sorry to leave.

2. The Hotel Pacific Luck in Shanghai was very good, as promised. New, well built, clean. I thought I could find a place where I could play the Chinese game Wei Qi, e.g., by using the computer in my room, but I could not, so I asked the Hotel. Eventually they helped at best as possible to find a Wei Qi club or other place, giving me several phone numbers and an address, but also without success. The Hotel was fine, no complaints.

3. The Hotel in Qingdao was ok, but I would not describe it as cooperative. When I asked about times for a train to Jinan, I was given the phone number to call (useless for a non-Chinese speaker), but eventually I prevailed upon them & they did place the call for me. Also, at check-in, they also demanded a huge deposit, much larger than my bill for the two nights. They only gave me one breakfast. I think I was a bit overcharged, but it could be a 5% city tax. Not everyone was unfriendly, but my experience there was disappointing. The physical hotel itself and the room were new, well built, and clean--so that was very good. So, thank you for taking the uncertainty out of my trip to China, which I enjoyed very much. Knowing that I had a place to stay when I arrived at a new city was very comforting being in a different civilization for the first time.

You certainly delivered the services promised.

Xie xie.
Thank you.
Regards,
Matthew Duling
