There is a clothes & shoes wholesale market near the Guangzhou Train Station. Thus, you can choose a hotel in that area. Among three-star hotels there, Sino Trade Center, Guangzhou is the nearest one from Train Station.

Sino Trade Center, Guangzhou is about 2.5 kms to the Guangzhou Railway Station, and you would better take a taxi to go there. Besides, the hotel is about 10 kms from the North Campus of Guangzhou Zhongshan University. If you would like to walk in the University, you can choose to stay at Ocean Hotel, Guangzhou but it is about 12kms to the Guangzhou Railway Station.
