Shanghai Haigang Hotel is a foreign business hotel located in downtown Shanghai and close to the busy shopping area along Nanjing West Road. It is about 18 km from Hongqiao Airport and 5 km to the railway station. This hotel is well located with numerous restaurants and shops nearby. The breakfasts are offered for free during my stay. The staff cleans the room every day and keeps the daily necessities timely updated. The reception service is fast with high efficiency and I also get satisfactory help from TCG staffs. The hotel was PERFECTLY situated in the middle of Nanjing Xi Lu area. Steps from the metro. and the has a lot of food choices. The hotel is a 'you get what you paid for' experience. The rooms are a little thread worn, but clean enough (for the price). I did have to ask that they clean the mold from the bath tub, which they did immediately. The staff does not speak much English, but not a problem for me. The breakfast would probably not suit most 'westerners' tastes, but again, you don't pay a lot and you can get inexpensive breakfast minutes from your hotel. Beds were on the hard side, but expected in this class hotel in China. Staff is very helpful if you can communicate in Chinese. Treat this as a local 'China experience' with benefits of excellent location in Shanghai and you will be fine. I think the 3 star attribution is wrong, the hotel even states it is a 2 star establishment.
TCG made the booking very easy. They were also very helpful when I had to make a mid-trip adjustment. Their service is GREAT! I will certainly use them again when traveling in China.

In fact, I will tell you what was NOT good.
I had problem on check-in – I had to wait more than 30 minutes to make it.
Also Internet connection was really poor. Very slow and only with cable – Wi-Fi connection should be available. In the other way, good things: the hotel is really on a good place;
Access easy – rooms/price are very fair!

We were in this hotel in July 2010.
The hotel is well spotted, not clean or comfortable, the front desk staff is completely incompetent and they don’t help anything. The breakfast was horrible; there was no coffee or tea. Travelchinaguides service was very good and the personal attention of Miss. Sara Liu was exceptional and fast.
