I promised to give you some feedback on the hotels I booked through you recently but first I would like to thank Therese (I think that is the name I got when I talked to her on the phone from the Lily Hotel, Hangzhou) who was able to respond to my request for hotel bookings in Shanghai and Suzhou in such a short time. Thank you for the fine service you rendered.
Now the Metropole Hotel, Shanghai
We had difficulty in finding the hotel - the hotel's name was misinterpreted for us by the tourist bus driver in Hangzhou (who was a local Shanghainese!!) and the taxi driver took us for a long ride!!!
Check in however was very good - no problems as you had indicated our coming and the staff could speak some English. However, we found the room a bit small for three persons and the third bed was very narrow. The floor of the room creaked when you walk and this was annoying especially when one has to go to the toilet in the early hours of the morning. It took us about 20 minutes to walk to Nanjing Lu but that was ok. We think the New Asia Hotel would have been better though we also found another hotel right on Nanjing Lu itself plus a few more nearby. Hotel Staff also were not very conversant with tourist spots, local tours, information on tourism, etc. They could only point out the general direction of the various spots we were interested in. Generally, we were disappointed with Shanghai as the Bund was under construction and we could not walk on the Bund at night. Taxi drivers were friendly and took us to the right places for food, shopping, etc. We would probably visit Shanghai only if necessary.
I hope the above comments would be useful. Generally, we wish for free and easy travellers like us, there are more help to give us information on local tours and how to book them, how to travel etc. Maps of the hotel and nearby streets and eating shops would also be helpful. Maybe you can make this available for would be travellers when they book through you.

I did enjoy my stay in Beijing and Shanghai. As regards to the review for Hotel GOLDEN RIVER VIEW, these are my comments.
1. Excellent location, clean and beautiful structure.
2. Great facilities inside the room
3. Continental Breakfast was excellent
4. Staff very efficient, friendly and always helpful in the restaurant..
5. The girl at the reception very business like, doesn't even smile when we look at each other in the mornings. Hunched over the desk attending to her works.
Overall, I will recommend it to all considering the good rates, location and atmosphere. Great value for your money.

We do have informed the hotel about your kind comments. The hotel staff is sincerely sorry for their service and will try their best to improve their service in the coming days. About the issue you stated, we were informed that the local public security organ has very strict regulations regarding to the foreigners who stay overnight in Shanghai. Guests' valid passport, identification card or other valid certificates are necessary when check in at the hotel. So, the hotel insisted you and your wife to show the passports. Hope for your kind understanding.
