Hello,
Travel China guide are very helpful when booking hotels in China
I thought the Suzhou Chinese Overseas Hotel was very good. I liked the traditional Chinese style, I though the staff were polite and helpful, the rooms were clean and the hotel was set in beautiful gardens. Would recommend this hotel to other travelers.
Thanks, Tracey

Dear TCG team,

Thank you very much for your help. You were very helpful and responsive regarding my concerns. Making a booking through your website is hassle-free. I also appreciate that you made follow-ups with my reservations and that I did not encounter any problem at all when I cancelled some of them.

The hotel was nice in a traditional Chinese way with fairly good sized rooms and beds. I booked a twin room and it was spacious - there were three of us and we did not get charged for the third person and we were very comfortable. There was also the unexpected bonus of having a free computer and internet in the room; there were also robes, aside from towels. The staff was helpful but only one person on duty knows how to speak English - so if there are special needs/matters that you wish to ask about, you would have to wait while another guest is being attended. Buffet breakfast is inclusive of the rate - food is traditional Chinese with not so many selections but is enough to start the day; though I can't remember if there was milk available; I ended up using soy milk on my coffee.

As for location, this place is near the city's Grand Canal - where you take the canal cruise. However, it is quite a fair bit of distance from the business area - it seems to be quite near as one could already see the buildings but we have never managed to reach it despite walking for about 20mins already (there might be some short cuts which we failed to find). Overall, this hotel is still good value for money.

The Suzhou Overseas Hotel is a beautifully appointed establishment, both inside and out, and a welcome contrast to generic hotels. Check-in and check-out were managed efficiently. Breakfast is convenient and adequate, if nothing special. The computer in our "Digital Room" looked like it had just come out of the box, but the connection was slow, and at 25 RMB a day, arguably a little over-priced. The location is convenient to all the sights, although hailing a cab at the entrance took some patience. All in all, it's a lovely hotel and good value at a reasonable rate. We will definitely make it our place to stay in Suzhou.

The booking was quick and efficient. The only suggestion I would make would be to remind those customers who intend to pay by cash when they check in, that in addition to the cost of the lodging, a deposit of a few hundred RMB will be held for the payment of various amenities for purchase in the room itself (internet, drinks, condoms, etc), which will be returned to the customer at check-out, minus the extra expenses, if any.

Cordially,
Thomas Caron
