To HotelTCG.com: I returned from Shanghai yesterday. We had a wonderful, excellent service stay at the Eton Hotel on Pudong Ave. We had a horrible stay at Shanghai Metropole with no hot water for shower for 3 days, front desk staff not giving my mother the correct room # when she called long distance multiple times regarding my heart medication. The toilet did not work on the 2nd day, but my friend fixed the plunger chain. The business center employee was terribly rude & unprofessional. She threw down yuan on the table & did not tell me the 1 computer they had could only work in Chinese & did not have internet access until after I paid. I requested a refund which she gave me. She should be fired. The front desk staff also told me there would be "no fireworks" in the area & the very next day there were at least 2 hrs of it, but we missed it because of what she had told us twice. They actually should be rated 0-1 star. The Housekeeping Supervisor was very responsive & a good listener, Mr. Chen, (young man). He was quite professional & had the hot water fixed immediately; he also apologized on behalf of the hotel & sent fruit to our room. He should be promoted to hotel manager! No one smiled except Mr. Chen & 1 older bellman who was very respectful & courteous. The other young bellman was good at English directions, but not friendly. No one was friendly except Mr. Chen & 1 older bellman. I filled out my written evaluation fully. One surprise was having to pay double the amount of our hotel stays for the "deposit," when we arrived. We were not prepared for that, esp. at Eton where we did add 1 day to our stay because we could not tolerate Shanghai Metropole any longer. At Eton we were asked to pay about $600 for the deposit + our 3 night stay. We hardly had enough yuan left for food. Otherwise, we enjoyed our Eton stay very much. They were extremely helpful, courteous & everyone spoke English. I know they are a 4 or 5 star hotel, but even a 3 star hotel (Shanghai Metropole) should have courteous, respectful customer service. Another item customers should be informed of for Eton is to bring their laptop since the business center does not have computer monitors. The WESTIN HOTEL near Shanghai Metropole has a public business center (EXCELLENT), where I did not need to bring my own laptop. They had many computer monitors, staff that spoke English & were extremely helpful & friendly even though they knew we were not staying there. Perhaps this is another hotel worth contracting with Hotel TCG.com. Anyway, thank you for your emails to my questions, Eton helped me get the proper hospital with the right heart medication. An employee named Ms. Summer Ma should be commended. She called many hospitals to find the nearest facility with the medication I needed & obtained the taxi immediately, so I had my medication by late afternoon. She is # 1 in customer service!!
