Starway Tuanjiehu Hotel, Beijing

We have no complaints regarding our stay at the Starway Tuanjiehu Hotel. Since the moment we got there, we were treated nicely by all the staff. Our room was very clean and comfortable, we had a little problem with the a/c working, but a staff member quickly came and fixed the problem. The location of the hotel is also pretty good, it's not in the center of the city but there is a subway station and a McDonald's near by and there's a shopping mall within walking distance. We chose this hotel because we had something to do at the U.S. embassy and we found it convenient since it was only two train stops away or 10 minutes by taxi.

Our booking experience was a great one. It's not the first time we have booked a hotel through TCG and every time we have been very satisfied with the service.

1. Please refer to previous reviews of the TuanJieHu Super 8 Hotel, as that was the name of the present Starway TuanJieHu Hotel.

Regarding room standard, location, surroundings and staff, they are as before friendly, polite and very helpful. Really good service.

In previous reviews I wrote that breakfast was terrible, but now the hotel provides a nice Chinese buffet breakfast, a great improvement! (Coffee provided if you ask for it, several warm and cold dishes, quite enough for a good start of a day in Beijing.

All in all, Starway TuanJieHu Hotel has become a hotel we will return to.

2. TCG: Booking by you... I have booked hotels (almost) all over China via TCG for years. This for one reason only: TCG is the best! Sorry to say, it is hard to find a suggestion for improvement

The problem was that they made a mistake and published a wrong rate in the Internet, but to understand this tiny problem took us more than 2 hours because no one could explain us the real problem due to their lack of English!!! Anyway, the overall experience was good despite this tine situation.

The booking through TCG Booking Center was easy and useful.

Thank you so much for your kind and sincere reply. We have contacted the hotel about the room rate and were informed by the staff that there was no mistake about the room rate in the internet. Besides, we were told by the staff that they gave you a Superior Room from November 13 to 19 and from November 19 to 21 you stayed in a Special Offer Room. The room rate for the Superior Room is CNY298.00 per night per room but the staff only charged you CNY268.00 per night which is the rate for a Special Offer Room. Hope for your better understanding.

Tuan Jie Hu Super 8 Hotel
(From airport by taxi; 75 to 100 RMB is reasonable.)

You have my comments on this hotel from previous visits there, please refer to those.
Regarding location, service, quality of room, etc.: As before. Quite good :0) actually very good!
Sorry to say that even if the restaurant will serve above medium dishes for lunch and dinner, the breakfast provided by now is not even fit for pigs, even less so for humans :0(

I'd much recommend the Tuan Jie Hu area in Beijing to any visitor, but for me; Sorry to say, never again the "Super 8" as far as I can see.
Luckily there are other hotels i the area :0)

The hotel has a convenient location in a small street inside the Tuan Jie Hu area. Within walking distance to Sanlitun Embassy area, Sunlitun Bei Lu (bar/restaurant street), and shopping if you like that :0). You'll also find several good restaurants in the area close to the hotel. Two or more nice Beijing Duck restaurants and a quite good hot-pot, a coffee-shop, and even an excellent tea-house, all within a 5 minute walk.

Depending on traffic you can reach central Beijing in app. 10-15 minutes by taxi or bus.
And now the Beijing Subway will be available in the area. Very good.

Staff is friendly and service minded. The rooms are clean and well equipped for a 3 star hotel. We/I have stayed there 3 times already, now coming back for the 4th visit. Good value for money!

A computer in the room with a broadband-connection is not a drawback in any way....
But as the hotel is wall in wall to a school, do not expect to sleep to long in the morning.
(Then again, who'd go to Beijing to sleep away the days?)

I may mention that the breakfast buffet is rather limited, and if you are very "laowai", it is a bit disappointing. ( This last visit they did not even supply coffee....that's a hard start of the day for a Norwegian :0)
The restaurant has a quite good variety of dishes and beverages for dinner. No need to go outside if it is raining.....:0)

2: TCG Booking Service:

I have been traveling in China 2 to 4 times a year since 2002 until this coming visit in June. Almost all hotel bookings have been made through TCG. In Beijing, Xi'an, Changchun, Dalian ( Made by phone from Changchun, arranged within an hour!!!!! ).

It is difficult to give you any suggestions on how to improve your service....TCG is the best! Most likely I'll be in China sometime in September as well. You will know when and where, for sure :0)
