Marine Garden Hotel is a four-star hotel in Gulangyu Island, which was opened in 2001. The hotel is surrounded by sea in three directions and close to Shuzhuang Garden and the bathing beach. It has elegant rooms and suites all of which are equipped with central air conditioning system, IC electronic door lock, international direct dialing telephone, mini bar, satellite TV, closed-circuit TV and internet access. The hotel also provides 24 hours room and laundry services. There are conference rooms of distinct styles. Dear TCG: We very much enjoyed our stay in Xiamen and could recommend the Xiamen Marine Garden Hotel to anyone interested in a nice hotel in a good location on Gulangyu Island. We ate at the Chinese restaurant there a couple of times and note that they do have a menu in English for those unable to read Chinese, which was very helpful to us. Hotel staff very polite and courteous. Our only disappointment was that the carpeting in our room was quite dirty, and looked like it hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed in some time. A four-star hotel needs to be more attentive to room appearance and cleanliness. Otherwise, we enjoyed our short vacation in Xiamen very much, and would certainly recommend your company to anyone who wishes the very best in tourist services.

Regarding our experience with the Xiamen Marine Garden Hotel, we would like to make the following comments :
1. The staff were very friendly and service very adequate. However, the following to improve service to non-Chinese tourists, may we suggest that the Chinese restaurant be furnished with an English Menu or at least staff that can communicate in English. Also, nobody seems to know where the Catholic Church is located.
2. Regarding their policy of charging RMB50.00 for a lost or unreturned key card, we find it excessive. Our usual practice is to take away or destroy the card as we do not know what information was coded into the card. Some hotels encode sensitive materials like addresses, credit card numbers, etc. which is not erased until the card is re-used. In the meantime, this info is accessible to anyone.

This Hotel I would strongly recommend to any visitors to Xiamen.I and my two guest were very impressed with the location of the Hotel and the surrounding area. The room that I had was delightful overlooking the well manucured garden environment and facing the water. Very beautiful view! There was a lot of renovation work in several of the hotel buildings next to mine, but they appeared to be careful about noise and the time of day they worked.
The breakfast dining was outstanding, but that is the only meal that I had at the hotel. The facilites are excellent with terrific architecture and eye appeal. Excellent location. The hotel was neat & clean, and the service personnel were very cooperative despite lack of English skill. Robert
