This was my first time to visit Nanjing. Xuanwu hotel far exceeded my expectations. Frankly speaking, I was surprised by their high quality service. In my experience, many Chinese hotels have a nice lobby, but the quality drops off after that. But this hotel was nicely appointed. The hotel personnel were very courteous and had great command of English. I was greeted by my name everywhere, just felt like home. Also, the hotel is in a great location, just 5 minutes from the shopping and entertainment area. Definitely I will stay here again if I come to Nanjing next time. Guest Name : cohen Updated : 2007-12-25 I will never forget my nanjing experience and my stay in Lakeview Xuanwu hotel. I arrived in nanjing with the group of Philippine Consul General Rowena Sanchez last Sept 22, 2007.At 7pm, I walked out of the hotel with friends and nieces and unfortunately tripped, hit the right side of my face against the pavement, broke my eyeglasses. By some freak accident, that little screw on my eyeglasses and a part of the stem (that part that rides on the ear)got stuck on my right eyebrow. Bleeding and in pain, we walked back to the hotel to seek help. A Mr. Richard Fu from the hotel stayed with us the whole 3 hours i was in the hospital. Mr. Fu made sure i got immediate medical attention and acted as our interpreter during the entire ordeal. I do believe this is some service one truly appreciates from a hotel, especially in a country where communication can be a problem. I hold fond memories of Nanjing because of the kindness shown my way...from the hotel staff esp. Richard Fu, to the kind doctors and medical staff from the nearby hospital. The rooms were exceptionally clean, well equipped, with a great housekeeping staff who is available on each floor 24 hours. A bit downtrodden, but quite livable. The aforementioned breakfast buffet is wonderful...both eastern and western offerings. Gets three solid stars from me! However, please note that they were not able to offer me a non-smoking room at the standard rate even though you said in this email they would be able to do this for me. I had to pay extra money to be upgraded to a deluxe room. Even then, the room had a strong smell of stale smoke, so they upgraded me to a suite for the deluxe room price!
