Mr.bardin(ireland) said:

I'm very interested in buddhism and want to become a buddhist. Although it may seem silly since I' am only 13.
I am wondering though do you have to be baptised or anything like chriastianity??

Dec. 1,2008 21:21
Mr.Bernard(US) replied:

I suggest you taking more time to know much more about Buddhism since you are very young. Interest is one thing, while to become a buddhist you must believe in Buddhism, and you have to take priestly vows, something like being baptised.

Mr.Lee Chan(Singapore) replied:

Do you want to believe Buddhism as an ordinary person or to be a monk? God, Buddhist monk cannot marry a woman.

Mr.Edna(China) replied:

On, my dear Mr. Bardin, I guess you just want to learn Chinese kung fu. It's often to see monks using kung fu, so you want to be a monk. Actually, ordinary persons can go to Shaolin Temple to learn kung fu as long as you would love to.

Mr.bardin(ireland) replied:

im not sure you all get what i am getting at and i apreciate your advice but its not kung fu or karate im interested in. well i dont believe in god and ive always felt like i would not just die and go to heaven i felt like i wu=ould pass to another body and when i start reading about buddhism i started want to become one. and i dont want to become a monk but i thank you for the information, but i would just like to become an average buddhist since i feel like i need a new religion because the catholic church is corrupt in some ways but i respect their beliefs. please write back.

Mr.bardin(ireland) replied:

Ms.Evelyn(China) replied:

In the aspect of religion, China is so different from your country. We have three major religions, including Buddhism, Taoism and Islam. Christianity and Catholics are also believed in. So, in China you can see Buddhist and Taoist temples, Islamic mosques and Christian churches. However, most of Chinese people don't have religion, I think. Maybe, you cannot imagine how a person can live without religion. But it's true. They also live a happy life. They have something to pursue. So, when you want to choose a religion but don't know which one should be chosen, why not be calm to accept this gap? Just relax yourself and spend some time understanding Buddhism. Oh, don't forget a truth that Buddhists should be vegetarians.

Ms.Bella(USA) replied:

You really need to trust yourself that you can do anything you want to. No, not like killing others. It's better to succeeed your goal instead of giving up when your so close. :] Believe that you can SUCCEED!!!

Jan. 27,2009 14:36
Ms.Bella(US) replied:

Then, wait? It's just good that you have a dream. So when your like...19. You should succeed your dream. By the time you reach you know you always have to believe in yourself. Ni Hao.

Look Mr. Mad or what ever! This site is credible. You really need some anger management classes. This isn't some kind of chat board people check every five minutes so SORRY if it doesn't meet your expectations. Go yell at another site.

Ms.Irene(USA) said:

I took a brief course on Buddhism in college.. and if I understand what you're saying, you don't want to be ordained as a Buddhist monk but would like to practice the religion, right? If I remember correctly, people that do so are called "lay people". I don't really remember anything else, so you should look into "lay people" if you're really interested.

Dec. 23,2008 14:34
Mr.N/A(N/A) replied:

So is this information credible? I can not find any site with such great information, but this is for a research project, therefore I am concerned. I want to make sure my research is correct.

I do know what you are saying I was once at a time where i had know religion but I am determined to do this even if it sounds foolish because of my age.
But I understand why being a vegetarian would come into it with being peaceful and things like that.
I do thank you all for your help and advice. But are any of you Buddhists??? Because I would like it if you could tell me some need to know things on buddhism. the internet is not a great resourse on buddhism.....
please write back.

Ms.Evelyn(China) replied:

I'm not a Buddhist. But I know to be a Buddhist you have to abstain from killing animals, stealing, lewdness, the spreading of falsehoods and drinking alcohol. They are five fundamental commandments of Buddhism. Besides, there are many other commandments that a Buddhist must abide.
