News from Chongqing Municipality is that the ancient town of Dachang in Wushan County has been submerged as water level has risen to the 175-meter mark, resulting from the Three Gorges Project. Consequently a new lake has emerged within the reservoir area.
The new Dachang Lake will become the latest attraction in the region. Extending from Shuikou Village in Futian Town to Shoubayan Bridge, Dachang Lake covers an area of about 12 square kilometers (4.6 square miles). It is about 20 meters (66 feet) deep and becomes the biggest lake in the region. As it is surrounded by verdant mountains with their reflection on the clear lake, it naturally exudes a charming scenery.
As the ancient town of Dachang is rebuilt besides Dachang Lake, its relics and the beautiful scenery around the lake complement each other. Dachang Lake will subsequently become a terminal for the Lesser Three Gorges (Wu Gorge) cruise. Visitors will be able to enjoy the splendid scenery while cruising in the lake as well as the chance to appreciate the architectural style of the ancient town.
