Strong Typhoon Hits South China Sea

According to a statement by the China Central Meteorological Office, the No. 16 typhoon named XANGSANE hit the central South China Sea yesterday evening. It is predicted that prior to Oct 1st there will be gale above 7 degrees around the most parts of South China Sea and south coast. Rainstorm will appear in Hainan Province.

It is said that, XANGSANE was first formed on the sea surface east to Philippines on Sep 26th; soon it became a strong typhoon. Under the influence of the typhoon, this morning, it appeared gale of 8-10 degrees on the eastern surface of the South China Sea. Also, the south part of South China Sea, sea areas that northeast to Japan and northwest to Sumatra appeared gale of 6-7 degrees. Areas like eastern Yellow Sea, Thailand Bay, Malacca and east and south regions of the South China Sea etc. only have the visibility degree of less than 10 kilometers (6 miles).

It is predicted that from Sep 29th to Oct 1st, gale of 7-10 degrees will strike the central and south regions of South China Sea, and gale above 6 degrees to northern South China Sea, Bashi Channel and Taiwan Strait etc.
