According to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, more than one million Yuan has been invested to build the establishments with wheelchair access in eight tourist attractions in Beijing. Before 2007, the disabled can visit these spots on wheelchair easily.
The eight attractions that are designated to build the establishments with wheelchair access are Zhihua Temple,
Temple of Confucius, Dajue Temple,
Five Pagoda Temple (Wuta Si),
Great Bell Temple (Dazhongsi), Wanshou Temple,
White Dagoba Temple (Baita Si) and Beijing Ancient Architectural Museum.
Because Beijing will receive many disabled athletes from all over the world during 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and the lack of equipments with wheelchair access in Beijing tourist attractions, Beijing began to put this measure into application.
In the construction of equipments with wheelchair access, two wheelchair lifts will be built in Dajue Temple. Besides, more ramps will be paved for wheelchair users. The ticket windows will be lowered for the convenience of the disabled. Toilets and resting places will be wheelchair accessible as well. The servicemen in the scenic spots can learn the disabled mentality very well after some special training.
Before 2008, 116 tourist attractions including the
Forbidden City (Gu Gong),
Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) and
Beihai Park will be equipped with wheelchair accessible facilities. The disabled can visit more famous scenic spots in Beijing with more convenience.
