Accommodation: Golden Palace Silver Street HotelDescriptions:
Tiananmen Square - To the south end of the Tiananmen Square, there lies the Tiananmen Tower and the Forbidden City, both of which are surrounded by the Outer Golden River. Above the river, seven white marble bridges called Outer Golden Water Bridges were erected in the Ming Dynasty and supply the only way leading to the imperial palace. Besides the five bridges located in front of the Tiananmen Tower, the other two are in front of the Altar of Land and Grain (current Zhongshan Park) and the Imperial Ancestral Temple (current Beijing Working People's Cultural Palace).
Forbidden City - In the Forbidden City, there are three most important halls. They are the Supreme Harmony Palace (Taihe Palace), the Central Harmony Palace (Zhonghe Palace) and the Preserving Harmony Palace (Baohe Palace). They three formed the venue that the emperor held court and conducted his grand audiences. In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), they were called Fengtian Palace, Huagai Palace and Jinshen Palace respectively and later the Emperor Jiajing of Ming changed their names to be Huangji Palace, Zhongji Palace and Jiangji Palace. The present names of these three palaces were given during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Accommodation: Golden Palace Silver Street HotelDescriptions:
Summer Palace - Covering three quarters area of the Summer Palace, the Kunming Lake is one of the major scenic spots inside the royal park. The lake was originally a natural lake formed by a number of springs in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and was expanded as a part of the imperial garden during Emperor Qianlong's reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). People consider it a mirror of the Summer Palace. Now it has become a fantastic resort for visitors to relax and spend their holiday.
Lama Temple - Lama Temple, namely the Yonghe Lamasery, is attractive both for the splendid royal buildings and mysterious Tibetan religion. This temple was originally constructed in the later Ming Dynasty, when it was the residence of the court eunuch. In 1694 of the Qing Dynasty, the Emperor Kangxi reconstructed a royal residence here and sent it to his fourth son-Yin Zhen, who ascended to the throne in 1722 and was known as Emperor Yongzheng. Later, this royal dwelling was changed to be a lamasery in 1744 of the Emperor Qianlong.Day 06Departure from Beijing

The Military Museum of Chinese Peoples Revolution is now in a separate big building near Junshibowuguan subway station, the map even calls the station ''military museum''. It is across from a McDonalds (of course). Adults are 20 yuan. SOme tanks, vehicles, rockets, guns, and Chinese version of history.
Hours are 8:30 to 17:00
The Museum of Natural History has the Human Body exhibit is a small building near the exit gate. Quite interesting.

I have read that China has a week long National day celebration at the beginning of October that can cause some lack of services, inability to get tickets, etc. Is this something that needs to be planned around?

Rebecca replied:
In the first week of October, most of the scenic spots are very crowded because of the National Holiday. So you may consider taking the tour after October 8th, when the holiday is over.

If you go to the Lama Temple in Beijing make sure to stop off at the restaurant that is a couple of hundred metres north.
It is a big multi-storied fancy-looking place that you might imagine is expensive. It''s not.
The name is Jing Ding Xuan and it sells Cantonese-style dim sum and other tiny delights from all over China.
I don''t like shui jiao (boiled dumplings) but I like them at Jing Ding Xuan. The leaf-wrapped rice and chicken is great too.
It''s also a good example of a very "renao" Chinese eatery.

hi, i just came back from beijing, and i met the most disappointing thing with my agent!! i'd like to post my bad experience here and hope you can avoid this trap in your tours. my agent, (do not like to mention its name here) offered me a very 'attractive ' plan with a very 'attractive' price at the very beginning, though with some optional programs exclusive in or around Beijing, like visiting to Summer Place, or to Hutong area etc.
After the tour commenced, i began to realize that with the optional programs, i had to pay here and there, and my expenses went up day by day, and my costs is indeed much higher than many all-inclusive tours.
i strongly suggest you ask your agents for prices of all-inclusive tours, DO NOT believe any optional programs, though that makes the cost low, they are only their tricks! If there is any optional programs, we must ask our agent to offer a complete plan and a final price incluing the costs of all those optional programs. We only need to get one price for a COMPLETE package and pay once to our agent.
