Ciqikou Village, ChongqingDay 02Chongqing
Visit the Hechuan Fishing City in the morning and drive back to Chongqing, visit the Ciqikou Village in the rest of the day.(B+L)
Descriptions: Hechuan Fishing City - Hechuan Fishing City is located by the side of the Jialing River, five kilometers east of Hechuan District, Chongqing City. It's one of the well-preserved ancient battle fields in China. In July 1259, the Mongolian army struck the Southern Song Dynasty by three routes. At Hechuan Fishing City, the local citizens and the army of the Southern Song put up a stout resistance. As a result, Mangu Khan was wounded by fire. Later, he passed away. Then, the Mongolians started a war of seizing the scepter, which weakened their outstretched power to Southern Song and Europe. It not only continued the Southern Song's reign but also changed the structure of the world. The Fishing City got the name as it was established on the Fishing Mountain, Diaoyushan in Chinese. In the ancient times, it was a gateway to Chongqing. The city was built along the mountain and fortified very heavily.
Ciqikou Village - Ciqikou is an ancient town near to the downtown of Chongqing. The old streets there were all paved by top-grade stone tablets. The oldest stone in Ciqikou has a history of about one thousand years. On the both sides of the street stand antique houses and shops. The shops sell various artworks like embroidery, Chinese calligraphy and paintings. Also you can find many local snacks, such as deep-fired twisted dough and beef jerky.Day 03Departure from Chongqing

The best teahouse in Chongqing:
Here I would like to recommend one of the best Tea Houses I have ever seen in China. It is called 18 Stairs Teahouse, but it is very difficult to find. It is situated in the Yuzhong Districe, close to Jiefang Bei. Walk down the MinquanLu to the round about or rotary traffic meeting the XinhuaLu (10 minutes walking). From this traffic circle you take the second street on the right side, which is called ZhongxingLu and heads down to the ChangJiang, but it is already the second building 100 meters on the left side of the road (from there you look down on to an older part of Chongqing. From the outside you don''t realize that it is a Teahouse and it looks so small you only see one storey. But if you enter you will find another world. There are three more storeys downstairs, because it is situated on the hangside to an older quarter of Chongqing. Everything is decorated with antiques, woodcarvings, bamboo, calligraphies, buddhas and so on. In summer time you can enjoy a nice terrace, lovely decorated, with a view over the mentioned old quarter all the way to the ChangJiang (if they havent built 10 new skyscrapers by now, you never know in Chongqing). On the lower floors they have a little well running like a river through the floor, so that you have to do some stone-stepping to reach the other side with dry feet, I''m serious. You can choose between cosy corners, private rooms or normal tables but you always feel very comfartable. I don''t have to mention the Tea quality in a Chinese Tea House, do I? Here I used to take a break with a relaxing cup of tea after a tough bargain at the Antique Market down the street, which is my second tip for Chongqing.

Recommendation of some nice Bars, Clubs and Discos in Chongqing:
1. Dee Dee''s Bar
Dee Dees has an english pub flavour. The staff are always very passionate. With views across the Yangtze River, Dee Dee serves a wide selection of local, Asian and western dishes and beverages catering for locals, ex-pat residents and international travelers alike. With the friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere makes Dee Dee''s Bar the ideal venue for any occasion and a favorite amongst many in Chongqing.
Address: 86 Nan Ping Xinjie, Nan An District Located beside the Holiday Inn apartment block.

2. Fifth Season Book Pub
The first Book Pub in the city, set up to encourage reading and relaxation. The coffee is good.
Add: 6th floor, Metropolitan Plaza, Jie Fang Bei
3. Newcastle Arms
A Western-style bar with good beer and great music.
Add: 3rd floor, 168 Ba Yi Road, Jie Fang Bei, Yu Zhong District
4. Romantic Bar Street
A terrace area, stretching out to the Jialing River, with Chinese-style buildings housing an array of bars and pubs, with outdoor seating.
Add: located near Pizza Sunday/Modern Book Centre
5. Falling Club
Close to Jiefangbei Monument, Falling Club is one of the few houseclubs in China that is acceptable. Ok, sometimes you still hear the old stuff, but there is nothing wrong with a ten year "classic" like the Bomb from the Bucketheads....."these sounds fall into my mi-i-i-ind..." :-) Especially when the crowd gets wild. So it is the best place to shake your ass in Chongqing!

ANTIQUE MARKET in Chongqing
The ANTIQUE MARKET is situated in Yuzhong District, downtown Chongqing, close to Jiefang Bei. From JiefangBei walk down the MinquanLu to the round about or rotary traffic meeting the XinhuaLu (10 minutes walking). From this traffic circle you take the second street on the right side, which is called ZhongxingLu and heads down to the ChangJiang Walk down this road where the Tea House is situated for maybe 5 more minutes. On the left side you will see a big building, which you can not miss because of many busy people. It is not spectacular from the outside but there are at least three floors full of traders. From the street you would enter the third one which offers electronic stuff, but I was not looking for a tv or washing machine. Walk around the building or down the stairs to the first two storeys where you can only find antiques! And by the way they where looking at me you could tell that this is a real Chinese market where they don't see foreigners very often (even in Chongqing). They offer everything from little things to complete old traditional Chinese beds and wooden statues (looked like old temple statues) of more than 3 meters height. You name it, they got it!This market is open everyday, but don't come too late. If you come by on the weekend there is also some market outside offering all kinds of goods.
Have a good price hunting!
