Mt. Huangshan - Mt. Huangshan is located in the south Anhui Province, spanning 40 kilometers from south to north and 30 kilometers from east to west. The main scenic area covers an area of about 160.6 square kilometers. It is said that the mountain has 36 large peaks and 36 small peaks, among which the Lotus Peak, the Bright Peak and the Heaven Capital Peak are the most famous ones. They are located in the heart of the whole scenic area and are surrounded by over 70 mountains over 1,000 meters in height.
Lion Peak - The over 1600-meter-high Lion Peak in a shape of a lying lion is an ideal place to view the North Sea's scenery of Mt. Huangshan. The lion's head is the Red Cloud Peak (Danxia Peak) at west and its tail is the Shuguang Pavilion at east. At the lion's waist, about 200 kilometers west to the Shuguang Pavilion, there is the Refreshing Terrace (Qingliang Tai) which is the best platform to enjoy the fascinating and magnificent sun-rise and the sea of clouds.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Hotel: International Hotel (4 star)Descriptions:
Hongcun Village - The Hongcun Village is located in the southwestern foot of the Mt. Huangshan, about 11 kilometers to the northwest of the Yixian County. Hongcun is a typical water countryside but was designed much more ingeniously in a compact layout. This village was originally constructed in 1131 during the Southern Song Dynasty by the family Wang. It was deigned in a shape of a buffalo whose body consisted of the over 100 residential house. The whole village looks like a leisure buffalo lying quietly in the green mountain and water, so it is praised to be a village in a Chinese painting. In 2000, Hongcun was listed in the World Cultural Heritages by UNESCO.
Tunxi Old Street - Tunxi Old Street lies in the center of the Tunxi District of Huangshan City, which once was a small fishing village in the Song Dynasty. The 1273-meter-long street is paved with maroon flagstones, of which 895 meters is the pedestrian street. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), an Anhui businessman constructed 47 shops here to fetch in more investors. In the latter Ming and Qing Dynasties, this small village was a center of material collecting and distributing in Anhui. Now, there are lots of shops selling local products and souvenirs along the two sides of the ancient street.Day 03Departure from Huangshan

Hotels are available on the mountain, like Xihai Hotel and Beihai Hotel. But limited by the local conditions, the hotel facilities can not be expected too much.

trails on Huangshan
Not brining your luggage is still the best way to go up Huangshan; you might find it more convenient in the end. All you need is a change of clothes, tons of snacks and lots of water- easily can fit in a day pack. The Huang Shan trail maps are pretty bad, and there are tons of trails at the peak. If in the morning you are heading to the Taiping Cable car and make some wrong turns and have to backtrack, it would be a much better adventure if you were not carrying 60lbs of luggage.
1) From the top of the cable car to the 3 main hotels has some stairs, but is not that difficult. If you insist on brining your luggage, you can pay a porter to carry it for you.
2) The trail between the Beihai Hotel and the Taiping cable are is not difficult either.
3) I''ve stayed in Beihai and Panjialou and had dinner in Xihai Hotel. All of the "Big 3" at the peak are all pretty much the same. Beihai is the old standard. Xihai promises to be some big Swiss-style lodge and isn''t, which might be why some travelers are disappointed staying there. But really, as for the hotel rooms themselves, and in terms of location, just get the hotel with the lowest price. But book soon, since they fill up quickly.
When you get dinner at a hotel (which is also overpriced), make sure you order a la carte dishes; do not get the cold buffet for tour groups. You will have a much better meal this way, and the fresh air will make you hungry.
Make sure you have your night train ticket booked before you head up the mountain, especially if you are going on a weekend.

We got a chance to visit Huangshan Mountain - a very famous mountain in Southern China last month. We are lucky enough to enjoy the sunrise and the sunset on the mountain for the weather is fine. Our guide told us that the ideal place for watching the sunrise is the Lion Peak in Beihai Area and the best place for watching the sunset is Cloud-dispelling Pavilion in Xihai Area. Of course, it is also a good idea to watch the sunrise on the Bright Summit and the Jade-scree Tower. We follwed our guide's advice. The scenery is worth seeing and it is beyond our word to describe it. If you have time, we suggest you experience this in person.

After take the cable car to the submit of Huangshan, there is still about 1km mountain road to reach the Xihai Hotel. If you take many luggages with you, you'd better hire some heaver on the mountain to help you with your luggage. It is about RMB80kuai for the large one, while RMB50kuai for the little one from the cable car to the hotel. Or you could store your luggage at the bottom of the mountain and just take your necessary things with you.

We would like to hike as much as possible on Mt. Huangshan. We would prefer to go up one set of cable car (The Cloud Valley Telpher) and go down another set of cable car (Jade Screen Telpher).
The Jade Screen cable car locates on the back mountain. If you would like to take the Jade Screen cable car from the back mountain, you should be very healthy and energetic, because it will take you at least 3 hours' walk from your hotel to the Jade Screen cable car. You have to climb up and down numerous steep steps. This will expend a lot of your energy. And if any of you has mountain sickness, we do not suggest you take the Jade Screen cable car.
