Our cruise will arrive in Chongqing at 09:00. Is it possible to drive to Leshan and visit the Leshan Buddha and Mt Emei on the same day?

Della replied:
Grace, I’m afraid one day is not enough for driving from Chongqing to Mt. Emei. While you could take train from Chongqing to Chengdu firstly which is much cheaper and faster than the car transfer. Then visit the Leshan and Mt. Emei in the second day.

There are two sites people can see the panda in Chengdu. One is in Wolong Panda Reserve Center and the other is in Chengdu inner city Giant Panda Base. If you have sufficient time, then Wolong Panda Reserve Center is recommended. It will cost 2-3 hours to get there, including the Panda museum, this center is really huge, which requires more than a day for a thorough enjoyment. Wolong more looks like a research base in the mountain, this is the real atmosphere some of travelers are longing for. If your visit time is limited, Chengdu Base is also OK. For some extent, you can also get pretty much same experience at both. Both offer the opportunity to have photoes by holding panda. It is just a short way north of downtown Chengdu, easily accessible.

There are direct buses to Emei from Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station every 20 minutes from 7:15 to 18:10 everyday. It takes about 2 hours on the way. When you arrive in Emei city, change to Bus No. 1 which will take you to Mt. Emei. There are some essential cost you need to know before you head to it. Please check below:
Entrance fee of Mt. Emei: 120rmb
Cable car to Golden Summit: up 40rmb while down 30 rmb
Cable car to Wannian Temple: up 40rmb while down 30 rmb
Sightseeing bus inside the Scenic Area: 30rmb for one way and 60rmb for a round
Golden Summit is located at the top of Mt. Emei. Under the bright sunshine, the hall looks splendid in green and gold, hences the name "Golden Summit". On the magnificant Golden Summit, the peak is close to the sky. The apprearance of the Buddist idol is majestic as well as the golden hall. The Six Spectacles of the Golden Summit are sea of clouds, sunrise, Buddha''s light, sacred light, golden hall and golden buddist idol. If you want to see the sunrise here, the best time is 6am in summer and 7am in winter. If you want to see the clound sea, the best time is 9:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 16:00. Knowing this, you will make full use of your time and have a more pleasant time on Mt. Emei.

We traveled to the places mentioned in the itinerary last summer by ourselves, a great trip. We stayed in some ordinary hostels for backpackers, they are also really nice.
In Chengdu we chose Jason''s Nest Guest House. No. 26 west way of south railway station. This is a fully-equipped hostel with spacious bright rooms, clean bunks, the Tibetan-style dining room and bar. It is located in the leisure, entertainment and dining center of Chengdu, with very easy access to most attractions by ¥10 taxi ride. It''s a ¥30 taxi ride from the airport or north railway station. You can also make a call in advance to enjoy a free pick up. Very helpful and knowledgable staff can be found here.
In Chongqing, we stayed in Chung King Hotel, not over-expensive, rooms are space limited a little bit but well decorated and furnished. Satelite TV by having a couple of english-language channels are available. The food served in its western restaurant are also acceptable.

Some useful tips for your travel to Mt. Emei.
Don''t flirt with monkeys in Mt. Emei in case of hurting as they are very piquant. Don''t wear vivid-color clothes.
The sea level of golden top on Mt. Emei is 3000m, those travelers who have heart disease, please take this into consideration. Flatties are required and casual dress is better.
Be careful when taking the cable car. The cable car to Golden top is not available for 24 hours, so a good time arrangement is recommended.
Some of the temples on the mountain can accommodate travelers, but really in a very poor condition. You should bear this in your mind.
Mt. Emei has a very high altitude. Even in the hot summer, the average temperature is around 10C. So please take a thick jacket or sweater when heading there. Also take raincoat with you if possible.
