One of the best things to do on arrival to Hangzhou is to head for Paradise Cafe located on Hubin Road right next to West Lake. Here you will be able to get your bearings while you sip a cup of coffee out on the patio and have a read of Hangzhou's "More" Magazine. Inside you will find tips on where to eat, shop and what to see. Picking up one of these FREE Mags will make a tour plan of the city simple, and the handy map inside will help direct you.
Day 1: West Lake
1) Get up really early and climb around Baoshi Hill - stop by the Taoist temple and the Baochu Pagoda
2) Get some breakfast
3) Take a boat ride from the north side of the lake to the south, stopping at Small Yingzhou Island, Mid-Lake Pavillion, and getting off the boat at Huagang Guanyu
4) Get lunch at the Cantonese place across from Huagang Guanyu if you have money
5) Go back across the street to Huagang Guanyu and wander the park, then walk through the parks along the south side of the lake heading east towards the city- parks include Orioles Singing in the Willows, etc.
6) Rest and have some tea
7) Go to Wushan Square area for dinner, then walk along the shops of Hefang Street after dinner
