The Kunming Provincial Museum was remodeled and opened last year, the artefacts all have English captions, the history panels are interesting. There is a Buddha room on the 3rd floor. Only 20 yuan for the museum. The museum is diagonally across the street from the Bird and Flower Market.
Across from the Camellia Hotel and left about 50 meters is a large white building, it has a track outside and a 50 meter swimming pool inside, heated. The pool costs I think 25 yuan, 10 of that you get back for the locker key deposit. Must wear shower shoes. No spitting.
The Hostel at the Camellia hotel is closed for repair but building 3 has dorm rooms and doubles with bath and tv for 120. Includes a big buffet breakfast - western and Chinese food, fruit, the egg chef will make soup also. They just put electric blankets on the beds.
The Yi People music/dance show should not be missed, it is fantastic. It is in the Kunming Theatre on Qing---- street, I had 3rd row center for 160 yuan. Title is 'Holy Girl of the Sun'. Starts 8PM. Gorgeous costumes and hats.

Also, to Xi Shan take the minibus near Yunnan Hotel, it leaves on schedule and is only 5 yuan and goes up to the Tomb. Took 30 minutes, only stopped at base of mountain. Bus holds about 12 and was not full.
Huge internet place on Baoshan Jie, a block from Carrefour. On one corner is a GAME CLUB arcade, near a bus stop, on third floor above a huge eatery place. Only 2yuan / hour, big screens, fast connection.

The main sightseeing in Dali is the visit to Erhai. You can have a cruise on the Erhai lake. There are two kinds of boat. The small one can take you just for a short cruise without visiting the whole lake. The big boat can take you visit the whole lake including most sites. But it takes you one day and the departure time is at 8:00 in the morning. The cruise charge for the big boat is expensive, more than 100 RMB. And the price raises randomly. When the boat reach every site, you will have about half an hour for visiting. But the cruise charge does not include the entrance fee for these sites. You have to buy another ticket for every site which is not cheap, either. So I think just have a visit to the Erhai Park which entrace fee is about 10 RMB is fine.

hi guys
i am a chinese malaysian female who would like to visit kunming and places around in late dec (most probably spending christmas there). i'll travelling with another friend and we would like to have 2 others (female) to make a foursome. as this will be our first diy trip so we welcome any form of advice: budget, itinerary etc.
btw we are in our 40s and fluent in both mandarin and english. so if anyone who's experienced in diy tour but would like to have some language assistance in china, think we would be good companies.
