Some don'ts you should know when you travel in Tibet:

1. Eagle is their holy bird, never shoot eagle. In tibetan area, if you encounter cattle or sheep with red, yellow, gree cloth on, don't drive them, as they are the sacrificial offerings of locals.

2. Smoking is forbidden inside the temple. Never touch the buddhist figure, scripture or take photoes without permission.

3. Don't step your feet on the threshold when you visit the local tibetan family. Never spit in front of people.

4. Stretching tongue out of their mouth shows a kind of respect instead of jeer. Putting palms together is a kind of tibetan etiquette.

5. Control yourself, if possible, don't smoke and breathe more fresh air in Tibet to keep yourself in a good status.

6. If you've caught cold before your departure to Tibet, postpone your schedule. It's not easy to recover on the highest plateau. Rheum may cause other serious diseases like lung dropsy, which is quite dangerous.

7. Celestial burial is a very special occasion. If you come across the occasion, be quite and serious.

Samya Monastery is regarded as the first monastery in Tibet. It stands on the other side of Yarlong Tsangpo River. You need to take a motor-assisted unroofed simple boat to reach the opposite riverside. It goes against the current, so 40 or 50 minutes will be needed. The boat is very tatty but safe enough to accommodate like a dozen of people. Sometimes you need to share the boat with some livestocks, as it is the only boat on the river. Here there are four tips for your reference:

First, wear respirator and scarf to prevent the strong wind on the river. Second, when you get off the boat, a tractor is waiting for you on the riverside. The road between the strand and the monastery is very bumpy, so grasp the railing tightly in case of any unsafe happenings. Third, the inside of the monastery is very lightless, do remember to take the headlight or flashlight. The last one is about the dinning and accommodation. There is only one shabby hostel and restaurant inside the Samya Monastery, no other choice. You had better have enough breakfast in your hotel before your departure, then take some snacks with you and eat some on the boat, after the trip, you can have a big dinner when you get back to Tsetang or Lhasa.

Hope these above information could give you a little help. Wish you a nice trip!
