Echoing-Sand Mountain Pictures

Camels are the best vehicle in the desert.

Echoing-Sand Mountain in Dunhuang offers superb desert scenery. The dune reaches a relative height of 250 meters (820 feet). The climb to the top is sweaty work, but the dramatic view rewards the effort. Sliding down the dune is simple but extremely exciting- it gives out a sound like thunder or a drum-roll as the wind sweeps across the sands. The thunder-like sound is tremendous and fabulous! Please can you tell me if there is an overnight soft-sleeper train from Dunhuang to Xi'an? I would like to make that journey sometime between the 7 and 18 of July. Or is it better to take the opposite side train? How much is the one way ticket?
Thanks!

Hi, Tess, from the current train schedule, there is only one train available of Dunhuang/Xi'an, it is K592 0934/0915 , and the charge for the upper berth of the overnight soft sleeper is CNY558.00, while CNY584.00 for the lower berth. For return trip, it is K591 1056/0930 , and the fee for the train tickets remains the same. You may choose the suitable one due to your own arrangement.

Hi, I am looking to fly to Dunhuang from Beijing in early March 2010. Is there a flight directly and if so when does it operate, by which airline and how long does it take?

no direct flight between the two cities, perhaps you should make a tranfer at Lanzhou.

Plan to visit xinjiang on Sept2009 and my itinerary includes Urumqi, Turpan, Hami, Dunhuang and Jiayuguan. Would like to know about the traveling distance and time( either by train or bus) between these cities and place to visit.
Thanks.

I think you should prepare ten day at least to cover this route. Urumqi to Turpan: by bus through express way about 2 hours.
Turpan to Hami: 410km, many trains available, for about 4.5 hours
Hami to Dunhuang: 420km, by bus, about 6 hours
Dunhuang BUs Station has buses to jiayuguan since 8am in the morning. It takes 5 hours.
