Hi! I hope someone can help me. I'm planning to visit Datong and Xi'an on our way from Beijing to Shanghai. Here's my plan. Take overnight train from Beijing to Datong. Leave luggage in Datong train station, buy overnight train from Datong to Xi'an, and proceed with Day tour in Datong. Overnight train from Datong to Xi'an. Buy ticket for Xi'an to Shanghai for the next day (overnight), check in a hotel near train Xi'an station and proceed with Xi'an tour till next day. Overnight train from Xi'an to Shanghai.

Is this doable? Can I easily buy tickets in the train station, soft or hard sleeper as options and travel dates are in last week of April?

Thanks for those who will reply.

The plan sounds good, but i do not think you can visit all the interested places in Xi'an only in one day. You need at least two or three days in Xi'an. The train tickets in the last week of April may be a little bit hard to purchase as it is very near to the May Day Holiday. If you can not change your date, you can ask your friends in those cities to buy the tickets for you in advance.

Hello Ms.tan kim ling:
Winter in Beijing is cold indeed, but Nov. is not the worst time to visit Beijing. Please bring your warm cothes, hat, scarf and gloves. Take care of your children and arrive earlier to acclimatize yourselves to weather condition. My best wishes! :)
