Chengdu City, the capital of Sichuan, is both the cultural and industrial center of the agricultural Chengdu Plain of southwest China. The panda is the Chinese people's beloved animal. It is a treasure of China, but now it is endangered. For their better protection, a Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center was set up in northern suburbs of Chengdu.
