In Turki, 'tashkurgan' means 'stone city'. It's the name of an ancient city dating back to 2,000 years ago. Here once was the junction of the south and middle lines of the Silk Road. In the pictures, this ancient city looks quite lonely but very solemn. Taking advantage of particular conditions of terrain, the city was easy to defend but hard to defeat.
