In Mongolian 'Urumqi' means 'beautiful pastures'. The Southern Pastures just lies in the suburb area of Urumqi, about 75 kilometers (about 46 miles) away from the city. It is a piece of natural grassland covering an area of 119 square kilometers (about 45 square miles).
