Dear Eileen, I see from the Bill of Lading that the goods will be discharged at Barcelona Port (Spain). I asked you to send the goods to Oporto on the basis that this was the discharge port, but as the goods have to be sent by truck from Barcelona to Oporto, I wonder if it is possible to change the destination point to Vigo (my town) and clear custom here. Thank you in advance.

Ms.Eileen Wang (CN) replied:

Yes. After we checked with the factory, the ship can not reach the Oporto Port. Usually, they ship the goods to the Barcelona Port and then transfer it to Oporto overland. If you would like to make a change, we can change the destination from Oporto to Vigo. But according to the factory’s quotation, the extra charge of USD60.00 net in total will be added. Please kindly advise us your idea on this. We are waiting
for your final decision. Thanks too much.

Is there anything you can do to give this warrior a better chance of surviving the journey from Xi’an to Texas? More packing perhaps? Secure the head? Put instructions on the box (in Chinese and English) to ship it flat, not upright?

Ms.Tina Wang (CN) replied:

We really understand your concern, but we can not make sure whether the freight company will ship it flat or upright, since it is decided by the freight company. However, so far, we have not got any feedback from the customers that their goods are destroyed after they receive it. We will also try our best to make sure your goods to reach you perfectly. Please rest assured.

I had purchased another terra cotta warrior before – from a different company. The warrior I received was shattered beyond repair. Its feet were completely destroyed and it is unusable.
As I understand it, this was likely caused by three elements, either separately or in combination:
1. The shippers and dock workers destroyed it. Indeed you can see where the forklift crushed the crate.
2. The warrior was not packed properly. Its removable head was not secured, and instead was placed by the feet. The head could easily have crushed the feet.
3. The warrior was shipped standing on its feet, instead of flat – like a coffin. This distributed all of its weight on its feet, which could not support the load.
