21 Days of Chengdu - Leshan - Mt. Emei - Xichang - Lake Lugu - Lijiang - Tiger Leaping Gorge - Shangri-La - Kunming

Day by Day Itinerary

Departure: Daily

Day 01: Arrival in Chengdu
Upon arrival, check in at a local hotel and have a good rest.


Day 02: Chengdu
Cycle to the inner city Panda Reserve Center and the Wenshu Buddha Temple for a visit. Have a cup of tea in the old tea house in old Chengdu city in the late afternoon. Taste the delicious Sichuan Cuisine and enjoy the Sichuan Opera in the evening.


Day 03: Chengdu - Huanglongxi - Leshan
Cycle to Huanglongxi, a small fishing village that is often used in class-period movies. Then transfer to Leshan for a visit of the Leshan Giant Buddha, the biggest sitting Buddha statue in the world.


Day 04: Leshan - Mt. Emei
Cycle to Mt. Emei, one of China's four sacred Buddhist Mountains for some exploration.


Day 05: Mt. Emei
Hike on Mt. Emei and visit the Baoguo Temple and the Wannian Temple.


Day 06: Mt. Emei - Ebian
Cycle to Ebian, a seldom visited place by foreigners. Then take a night train to Xichang, the center of the Yi minority.


Day 07: Xichang
Visit old city walls and Muslim Mosque. Transfer to Xichang Satellite Launch Center.


Day 08: Xichang - Pingchuan
Cycle 86km to Pingchuan where you will visit some small mountain villages. Stay overnight.


Day 09: Pingchuan - Yanyuan
Continue cycle 56km, then stop at Yanyuan. Visit the small villages there and stay overnight.


Day 10: Yanyuan - Lugu Lake
Cross Sichuan and turn to Yunnan. Head to Lugu Lake by coach, where Mosuo People live in the form of a matriarchal society. Enjoy the view of Lugu Lake in Sichuan Province.


Day 11: Lugu Lake
Visit Liwubi Island and enjoy the amazing view around.


Day 12: Lugu Lake
Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lugu Lake and visit Yongning Monastery.


Day 13: Lugu Lake - Ninglang
Continue cycling to Yunnan, and then you will stop at a small town, named Ninglang. Stay overnight here and prepared for your next day long trip.


Day 14: Nilang - Lijiang
Arrive in Lijiang by coach, home of the Naxi minority and set in a valley overshadowed by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Enjoy the beautiful picturesque old town with moving waters and peculiar architectures.


Day 15: Lijiang
Full day is free. As you walk through the old town, you immediately get an overwhelming feeling of historical significance as your eyes absorb the 1,000 year-old small bridges, swift canals, cobbled streets and grey tiled roofs. Meanwhile, enjoy yourself with both the Western and Chinese food in the town.


Day 16: Lijiang
Visit the Baishui Tableland, the Dry Sea, take the cable car to Spruce Plateau and overlook the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and visit the Baisha Village and a local Naxi family, the Baisha Murals, the Rock Joseph's Former Residence in Yuhu Village.


Day 17: Lijiang - Tiger Leaping Gorge
Cycle to Tiger Leaping Gorge, the First Bend on the Yangtze River with imposing gorge scenery, and the Iron Chain Bridge in the Stone Drum town. The town of Stone Drum got its name from a large, cylindrical, marble tablet shaped like a drum.


Day 18: Tiger Leaping Gorge - Baishuitai
Cycle to Baishuitai, the backdoor of Tiger Leaping Gorge. Visit the narrow part of this gorge where it takes its name. (Yangtze River narrows to 70 feet here.) and a small rafting museum.


Day 19: Baishuitai - Shangri-La
Cycle to Shangri-La, a predominately Tibetan town. Check in at a local hotel and visit the Tibetan Law Court and Guishan Temple where you can see the biggest rotating scripture column in the world.


Day 20: Shangri-La
Visit the Songzanlin Temple, the biggest Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Yunnan, the Bitahai Lake, Shudu Lake and a Tibetan family.


Day 21: Departure from Shangri-La - Kunming
Transfer back to Kunming. Your bicycle tour ends here.
