Descriptions:
Forbidden City - the complex is divided into two parts, the Inner Court and the Outer Court. The Inner Court was the living space for royal family, and the Outer Court served as a workplace for emperor to cope with political affairs. The treasures kept there clearly reflect the productive and inventive power of the Chinese people. As the largest and best-preserved Imperial Palace complex, it is a must for visitors to Beijing.

Temple of Heaven - Located at the northern part of the Temple of Heaven, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest should be the most attractive building. It has three round roofs covered with blue colored glazed tiles and three layers of eaves. The emperor prayed for a good harvest here. There are 28 tall pillars inside the hall which correspond to the astronomical phenomena. The 4 posts of the inner circle are the four season, the 12 posts of the next circle are the twelve months and the outermost 12 posts represent the twelve Shichen (an ancient means of counting time).

I don’t want to take train from Xian to Luoyang, as I think it is quite suffering. Can I take the flight instead?

Ms.Delia replied:

Dear IAN, there is no flight between the two cities. After the express train is completed, it only takes about 1.5 hour between the two cities.

We need the detail plan included when the Shaolin-Tempel start the “show events” for the visitors?!

Mr.Sidney replied:

The training lesson in the Shaolin Temple Wushu Training Center is as below.
9:00 - 11:00 in the morning
14.00 - 16:00 in the afternoon

Many training items then!! You can choose the one you like. By the way, you may stay at the Henan Zen International Hotel, which is very near to the place you learn the Kongfu lesson. The hotel is located in the Shaolin Scenic Area, it will take about 10 minutes' walk from the Temple to the hotel. It will take about 2 hours by car from Zhengzhou airport to Shaolin Temple, and take about two and a half hours from Luoyang city to Zhengzhou airport by car. Hope this information is helpful.

There are good and bad points to visiting China in the winter. If you are pretty far south the weather is usually still fairly mild, but further north it can be very very COLD. Pack a couple of warm outfits (although you can also buy them cheap everywhere you go) and be prepared for tours spent shivering miserably. ^_^. I found the worst thing about going in winter was maybe that things didn''t look so nice, because most cities we visited were very white and foggy - everything in the distance (and sometimes up close) was shrouded in mist and the sky was white. Everything looks kind of dull and drab under the winter sky, and even when it''s sunny, you can''t always tell. ^_^. The advantage is that winter is, understandably, "not" peak tourist season in China. This means you can easily get discounts in hotel prices and tours. You may find that tour groups are smaller (which could be a bad thing, because if it''s too small it may not be cost-productive to, like, run it) and tourist spots are not so crowded. You may also find there are not many other foreigners around.

As I know, there are several Kongfu (Martial arts) performances in Shaolin Temple, even at interval of 30 minutes in the high season, which was told by our guide in Luoyang. The performance lasts about 40 minutes. If you did not catch up with the performance, you can go the the martial arts school near the Shaolin Temple, where many students do martial exercise on the playgroud. It is free for visit. But also, it depends on your luck to catch up with their class time.

But I do agree with Jeffrey that it is not worth to visit the White Horse Temple. Shaolin Temple and the Longmen Caves are really the highlights of Luoyang, even the whole Henan province.

I have been to Luoyang by myself. And the White Horse Temple and the Shaolin Temple are very alike. The former one is the oldest temple in China, but rather small. The Shaolin Temple is much bigger, and the Kongfu performance there was perfect! But the time is fixed. If like, could skip the White Horse Temple and spend more time in Shaolin.
