Pack and then throw out half! You can buy anything you need in China, let's face it, most of your stuff is probably made there. Carrying your pack in the heat is a bore.

ATMs are more readily available than I'd been lead to believe - didn't need to take cash or travellers cheques. Chinese phrase book was very useful.

I once traveled to Hongkong. And would like to share sth with those who intend to visit the wonderful city.

You do not need a tour guide in Hongkong. Almost everyone there can speak English and road signs are clear enough that you will not get lost. In Hongkong, you may put yourself as a hiker, the adventure before you would be immense. You can be your own guide, and armed with your own heart, you will totally fall in love with this magic place.
By the way, if you want to have a better view of Victoria Harbor, the sliding roof of Hong Kong Culture Center is a good choice. And taking ferry is a good way to experience the local flavour.
