9 Days of Beijing Great Wall

Day by Day Itinerary

Departure: Daily

Day 01: Arrival in Beijing
Arrive in Beijing and get prepared. Stay overnight at a local hotel.

Day 02: Beijing - Laolongtou - Shanhaiguan - Jiaoshan Great Wall
Head for Laolongtou Great Wall (the Old Dragon Head) in the morning. Start hiking here and trek northwest to Shanhaiguan Pass, the first Pass Under Heaven along the Great Wall. Then we will hike to Jiaoshan top. It is steep, but not so difficult to hike up.

Day 03: Jiaoshan - Tuofengling Great Wall
Today is the first day we trek the unprepared wild wall. Be prepared to trek in the wed and bush on the top of the mountain up and down. It is really a hard work for about 6hour along the wild Great Wall.

Day 04: Dongjiakou - Pingdingyu Great Wall
Drive to Dongjiakou in the morning. Had been an important strategic point, this section fortified with 36 turrets, 28 ramparts and 16 beacon towers with a total length of 8.5 miles (we could walk part of it). The highest altitude is 556m. We will hike from Dongjiakou to Pingdingyu. The architectural forms of the Great Wall are various. Some the relief carvings on the arched gateways are scanty in China.

Day 05: East Qing Tomb - Huangyaguan Great Wall
Drive from Funing County to East Qing Tomb in Tianjin in the morning. Visit the Tombs of emperors in Qing Dynasty. Then drive to Huangyaguan Great Wall in the afternoon. In the late afternoon, we will hike the eastern part of the wall and then wondering around the pass city.

Day 06: Huangyaguan - Simatai Section Great Wall
We will hike up the west part of this section in the morning. Then drive to Simatai via Miyun County. Late afternoon we start out for the eastern part of the Wall (one of the steepest part on the Wall) and enjoy the breath-taking sun-setting view on top of the Mountain. It took us three-four hours up and back.

Day 07: Simatai - Jinshanling Great Wall
Today we will trek westward for about 12km on the wild wall until we arrive at our camping site in Jinshanling Section.

Day 08: Jinshanling - Gubeikou Great Wall
Continue hiking west from Jinshanling to General Tower in Gubeikou, on the way, you will pass a military area where you have to hike a short distance country road away from the wall. Drive back to Beijing.

Day 09: Departure from Beijing
Board your homebound flight.

To all the Hiking lovers, I am sure you know the famous Great Wall of Beijing, while could you tell how many sections the Beijing Great Wall are? From the west to the northeast, The Great Wall includes Badaling section, Huanghuacheng section, Jiankou section,Mutianyu section, juyongguan section, Jinshanling section, Simatai section and so on. My travel buddy say hiking between Jingshanling to simatai is most impressing... I could not agree with him more. We advice you to start trekking at Jinshanling for it is easier to find a way back to Beijing via bus or minivan from Simatai. By the way, It will take about RMB 300 to hire a taxi to Jinshanlin from urban area of the city.
