Guangzhou Hiking Tours

01: Hiking Tours to Shunde, Foshan

Hike from Panyu District of Guangzhou to Shunde and Foshan and have a look at the ancient cultural remains and natural landscape, including Shawan Ancient Town, Xiqiao Mountain, and Lotus Hill. Here are the two most popular hiking routes:

Option A: Panyu - Shunde

On the first day, take a bus from Panyu Passenger Station to Daliang, Shunde for a fare of CNY 15. There are two sites worth visiting in Shunde: Qinghui Garden and Xishan Temple. Qinghui Garden is one of the four famous classical gardens of Guangdong, while Xishan Temple was built for people to pay homage to Guan Yu, an invincible general who is the symbol of faith and loyalty in people's mind. In the afternoon, you can visit Shawan Ancient Town, where old ancestral halls, temples, and residences are well preserved. Traditional music, dragon and lion dances, and other local art forms can all be seen there. If you still have time, you may visit the Baomo Garden, which is four miles (six kilometers) west of the ancient town. You can stay overnight back in Shawan. We recommend the Dasha Hotel, located at No.134 Zhonghua Avenue (Telephone number: 020-34878460).

On the second day, continue your hiking tour to Lotus Hill, which combines ancient ruggedness with modern beauty. It is a paradise of various flowers. The clear lakes and peculiar rocks are also very stunning. You can take bus Pan 92 from Panyu Shiqiao Passenger Station to the scenic area. The bus leaves every 10 minutes.

Option B: Guangzhou - Xiqiao Mountain - Bijiang Village

On the first day, visit the Xiqiao Mountain, one of the famous hills in South China. It is 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of downtown Guangzhou and can be accessed by tourist buses at East Coach Terminal and Fangcun Passenger Station. The trip takes about one hour. We recommend that you stay at the Yuntao Mountain Villa inside the scenic area (telephone number: 0757-86887888).

On the second day, take a bus to Bijiang Village, which has a history of thousands of years. There is an old luxurious private library, where gold foils were used to extensively decorate the walls, windows, pillars, and staircase. Taking a leisurely walk in the village, the surrounding old-style residences and exquisite gardens will definitely immerse you in the local lifestyle.

02: 2-Day Hiking Tours to Satellite Cities

What is your plan for the weekend? Two days are not long enough to make any visits to far away places, so exploring the satellite cities around Guangzhou is a good choice. The following are three options of 2-day hiking trails to Zhaoqing, Zhuhai and Shaoguan

Option A: 2 Days Tour of Zhaoqing

Take a coach from Guangzhou Guangyuan Coach Station to the famous historical and cultural city Zhaoqing, which is regarded as the 'bright pearl on the Xijiang River'. It is about 75 miles (120 kilometers) and takes about two hours' drive. Upon arrival, you are suggested to take bus no.25a to Dinghu Mountain, which is located in the northeast of the city proper. It is nicknamed the 'emerald along the Tropic of Cancer' for being the only oasis at this latitude. There are three spots that you should be sure not to miss: Baoding Garden, Qingyun Temple, and Flying Water Pool. The Baoding Garden houses the world’s largest tripod, Nine Dragons Treasure Tripod with a height of 21.9 feet (6.69 meters) and a diameter of 18.3 feet (5.57 meters). At the entrance stands the biggest ink slab in the world, Duanxi Dragon Ink Slab, weighing about two tons. Qingyun Temple is one of the four famous temples in Guangdong, built in 1636. There is a waterfall tumbling down a 130 feet (40 meters) high cliff of Flying Water Pool. The deep pool at its foot looks like green jade, and you can see clearly the pebbles at the bottom. The beautiful scenery will let you forget about your tiredness. At night, we suggest that you stay at the Peninsula Pearl Hotel (Telephone number: 0758-2669188), at the junction of Wanfu Road and Dingsheng Road. It is about 10 minutes' walk from Dinghu Mountain.

You can start the second day's hiking route by visiting the Seven Star Crags Scenic Area. Bus no.25a also stops there. It boasts a beautiful karst landscape and large-scale cliff inscriptions .Taking a short cruise on the Fairy Lake surrounded by rolling hills is like being part of a graceful painting. After that, you can also visit other attractions, such as Jianshengyuan, Aloe Garden, and the City Wall of the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). Zhaoqing is famous for a lot of time-honored food brands and the most representative one is Fatty Wei Steamed Food. You won't want to miss the chance to taste it.

Option B: 2 Days Tour of Zhuhai

Take a coach from Guangdong Provincial Passenger Station to Gaolan Port of Zhuhai. Upon arrival, you can get to Hebao Island by boat. The island is a good destination for admiring the beautiful seascape. It has four large beaches and the biggest, most original and beautiful one is the South Bay. The sand there is white and pure, and flashes with silver light under the moonlight, so it is nicknamed the Ten-Mile Silver Beach. During your stay there, you can also visit a fishing village to experience the local lifestyle. The Big Windmill donated by the UN, Chopsticks Road, an old banyan, and waterfalls are also worth visiting. Stay at a local hotel on the island.

In the morning of the second day, hire a taxi to the Butterfly Valley, an ecological nature reserve, which is a must-see spot. You can easily see flocks of butterflies flying among the flowers. 104 varieties of butterflies have been found on this island. Check out from the hotel at noon and head for the port. Take a boat to Zhuhai and then continue to get back to Guangzhou.

Option C: 2 Days Tour of Shaoguan

Take a high speed train from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Shaoguan in the morning. The trip takes about an hour. You can see the rural terraces of the Yao nationality on the way. Upon arrival, take bus no.23 to Nanhua Temple. The temple has a history of 1,500 years, with many rare cultural relics. After that, you can take a walk along the Sculpture Gallery, overlook the headstream of Beijiang River and the scenery of 'Three Rivers and Six Banks', and view the Fengcai Pavilion, which was built in memory of the famous minister Yu Jing in the Song Dynasty and now is regarded as the landmark of Shaoguan. You are suggested to check in Kaiyue Hotel at night, which is located at No.9 East Furong Road, Wujiang District (telephone number: 0751-8153888).

On the second day, take a bus to Renhua County and head for the Danxia Mountain Scenic Area. Danxia Mountain is also called China Redstone Park and as its name implies, peculiar hills there are all seemed to be enveloped by the sunset glow. Jinjiang River, which is regarded as the small Guilin Li River, runs across the resort. Taking a short cruise along the river is strongly recommended. And lastly, you can pay a visit to the ecological garden to get some information of the planting and medicinal properties of ganoderma mushrooms.

03: Downtown - Lotus Hill - Baiyun Mountain - Luofu Mountain - Nankunshan Forest Park - Liuxihe Forest Park

Lotus Hill, renowned for rare rocks and strange caves, is located in Panyu, 20 miles (32 kilometers) from downtown Guangzhou. Take subway line 3 and get off at Shiqiao Station. Then transfer to bus Pan 92 to the terminal and you will get to the scenic area.

After a visit to Lotus Hill, you may want to pay a visit to Baiyun Mountain, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of the city center. Taking a public bus is a convenient way to get there.

There are also many natural resorts around the city that are worth taking in, such as Luofu Mountain in Huizhou, Nankunshan Forest Park in Zengcheng, and Liuxihe Forest Park in Conghua. You need to take a coach to the corresponding cities first and there are special bus lines to the scenic areas.
