Many ancient cities in China have city walls, which were built up for lining out the city preventing the invasion of outsiders. Their function is familiar to the castles in European cities. Due to the historical reasons, many parts of the wall was tore down or was not well preserved. However, the Nanjing city wall still maintains the record of the longest city wall in the world. Highly recommend for your visit. It is quite visible in many connecting areas which is between downtown and suburb.

If you would like to visit water town, Qibao Old Town is a good choice. I have just come back from Shanghai. According to the variety of travel guide books, Zhouzhuang, Zhujiajiao and Wuzhen are very famous water town and highly recommended, but when i went there, i had found that actually it did not like that, they are all merchandized to some extent. You may see the peddleries everywhere.

Comparing with them, Qibao Old Town is more natural and original. Besides, it is more economical for you to visit there since it is just in the district of Shanghai, moreover, there is no admission fee.
