Hi,

Just came back from an 18 day trip around China and thought i''d share some infos with you peeps.

- For Huang Shan, please please do the west canyon trails....AMAZING!! and also virtually crowd-less. Start from the side where the Taiping cable car station is located because i think the views there are more spectacular and its mostly downhill. So less tiring and you can enjoy better. Give yourself about 6 hrs. Tough.
There is a small shop halfway selling snacks, drinks and of course instant noodles.

- Xidi is beautiful. Tickets can be bought there and costs RMB 80 (good for multiple entries and valid for one week....but please check). There is a small hotel right outside

- Hongcun, in my opinion is more breathtaking than Xidi. Tickets RMB 80, can be bought there and also good for multiple entries and valid for one week.

Within the village lots of ppl offering accomodation. Stayed in a traditional home wood panelled rooms and 4 post beds right next to the half moon pool with windows overlooking the pool. Great!!

STAY there if you can because between 7:45am to 6pm, the place is jam packed with tourists, like a market and i am not kidding. Lots of art students too.

Walking around Hongcun early in the morn and late evening is something else.........you can actually catch a glimpse of how life were during yesteryears

- Muken is 10 - 15 minutes away from Hongcun. Ticket RMB 30. Never seen and walked within a bamboo forest before, so thought it as very nice and different. Its and uphill walk and there is a small village on top...nothing to get excited about.

- If you have the time, go to the old street/''Lao Jie'' in Huangshan city. I went there at night and it was colourful and there were lots of activity around. Really fun way to spend the night. Much more authentic than the old quarters in Shanghai IMHO.

Well...thats my take. Hope you find it useful..

1. Smoking is prohibited in Huangshan except in some smoking designated spots. Do you part of avoiding fire caused by cigarettes which have destroyed part of Huangshan in the past. Take breathe of the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful scenery there.
2. Umbrella is not a good rain gear when visiting Huangshan. The path on the mountain is narrow and you may hit or block other passing tourists. Also, you umbrella could be blown away by a sudden gust of wind, which is also very dangerous.
3. When climbing the mountain on the way, you may come across some old men carrying all the materials up and carrying all the rubbish down the steep mountain steps every day. I am sure you would not leave any rubbish around inconsiderately. Keep Huangshan beautiful and natural for everyone who is visiting or will visit in the future.
