Here are some practical tips about Macau and Hongkong for your reference:
Macau: Far East Hotel (about $45) was in a convenient location, and was clean and comfortable.
Hong Kong: Ahshan Hostel HK$280 tiny twin with private bath, TV and AC. Near Mongkok Station. Clean and adequate. I imagine that there are hundreds of hotels like this. I wouldn’t rave about it, but it was fine. Some people may find it to be too far north. From our experience, little neighbourhood mom-and-pop noodle shops away from the tourist areas that had no English signs did have English menus, and had excellent noodles for 17-23 yuan a bowl. Mmmmm. I really miss those. The Hong Kong Museum is really spending a couple of hours in (30 yuan, I think).
Hong Kong subway: 11 yuan from Mongkok to Central, and 5 yuan to TST (Kowloon harbour). I cannot imagine the 50 yuan tourist Octopus card ever being worthwhile.
All of these info collected in Sep.

Places to visit in HK if you're a fist-time visitor:
1. Ocean Park - allot one day if you love theme parks
2. Victoria Peak - the peak tram (tilted at a 45-degree angle) will take you to a high-elevation point where you will see both Kowloon and Hong Kong sides. Nice view. Here, you can also find Ripley's Odditorium and a really nice wax museum.
3. Teddy Bear Kingdom - for kids and kids-at-heart
4. Ladies' Market - HK's Baclaran/Divisoria; you'll find clothes that will be trendy in thePhils. after 6 months.
5. Outlet shopping - Because people in HK are fashion-conscious, there are outlets designated for selling of out-of-season clothing. Be sure to pass by Esprit along Nathan Rd in Tsim Sha Tsui.
6. Museums
7. MTR (HK Subway)
Generally, hotels in Hong Kong side are more expensive than those in Kowloon. If I were to put into an analogy:
Hong Kong side = business and commerce
Kowloon = shopping
Hong Kong side = Makati
Kowloon = Manila
Perhaps those staying in HK can agree/disagree.

1. We were not aware that the currency in China was different than Hong Kong. We suggest that you make your clients aware of this so they can make a better decision about how much to exchange, and to be sure to spend the Chinese Yuan before departing for Hong Kong. (However, our guide in Hong Kong took us to a good place to exchange our remaining Chinese Yuan to Hong Kong Dollars at a very good rate.)
2. Unlike Beijing and Xi'an, where we had the same driver for our entire stay, we had a different driver each day in Hong Kong. In Beijing and Xi'an, we tipped the guide and driver at the end of our tour instead of each day. Since we were under the assumption that we would also have the same driver in Hong Kong each day, we did not tip the driver after the first day. When we had a different driver the next day, we felt bad about not tipping the first driver at the end of the day. Our guide then explained that the car service they use sends whatever driver is available for the day. Be sure to tell your clients about this difference in Hong Kong.

There is no direct train from Guilin to Hongkong. You'd better take plane instead, which could be more convenient.
