Mr.john(USA)said:

we are planning to visit xian from shanghai sometime in april. please recommend what is the best way to go there? if by train, how do we buy tickets? thanks!

Oct. 22,2009 04:31
Mr.Liz replied:

Both train and flight are acceptable. The train of Shanghai/Xian is overnight and it is comfortable with the soft sleeper berth. Flight is fast and the airfare is just a little more than a train's soft-sleeper in April.

Ms.Hsu(Msia)said:

Hi,

My husband will be going to Xian for a conference for 3 days and I'll be following him there. During those days, I plan to tour around Xian by myself. Is it easy to get a guide to show me around? I do not speak andy Mandarin. Also..is 5 days in Xian too long?

Oct. 14,2009 03:55
Ms.Snow replied:

Hi Hsu, I am living in Xian, but I don't know where to find an English guide, except for asking the travel agent for help. 3 days is enough to explore Xian. Actually you can finish the highlight sites in Xian within 2 days. Of course the terracotta warriors museum is a must see thing. I recommend you to visit the Tang Dynasty Palace which is a newly built garden imitating the buildings in Tang dynasty. Hope you can like it. OH, welcome to Xian. :)

What will the weather be like in Xian during the week of 8-14 Nov?

Oct. 10,2009 02:30
Mr.Tim replied:

I am living in Xian now so I think I'm the right person to answer your question. It would be neither too cold nor hot in the early Nov in Xian. Generaly speaking, the average high temperature is around 11/13 degree celsius and the average low is aroulnd 2/4. In recent days, it rains always and I feel cold.

Mr.Hema(New Zealand)said:

The problem is according to the new visa requirement we have to give the Chinese Embassy confirmed hotel reservations for the full stay in China. I have already paid for my full stay. I will not be sleeping for 2 nights in my hotel in Beijing but I have paid for it plus the train, so another night in Xian again will be an additional cost. With out the train tickets I did not want to take a chance. The Agents I contacted wanted US $166 for 2 soft sleeper tickets to book in advance, I thought it was over priced.
What are my chances of getting two tickets and are there soft seats as wellon the Z train ? Most importatnt is there a foreign ticket counter at Xian Station so that I can go there straight away.
I would really appreciate your answers to these please and thanks a lot.

Oct. 9,2009 04:41
Mrs.emma replied:

US 66 for one soft sleeper, right? Buying tickets in the counter, usually, the fare for one lower berth of soft sleeper is 417 yuan (about US61), plus 5 yuan service fee. If you think it is over priced, you can get to inquiry office on the left side of the exit of Xian Railway station. No english ticket counter, but I guess they may help you with english. I have no idea if you can book ticket by calling 96688688. I usually use it, but seems no english language to choose and I also do not know if it is possible to use passport instead of ID card.

Mr.Matt(UK)said:

I will be moving to Xian in early March next year for 1 year to be a school teacher. Naturally I will visit all the famous tourist sites but as I have a long time to explore what lesser known places or things should I do or see during my time in Xian.
Thank you.

Sep. 30,2009 03:52
Ms.Jessy(China) replied:

Since you will have a certain "long" time in Xi'an, it'll be much more convenient to visit some places which most the tourists won't have the chance to go.
The Zhong Nan mountain is part of the Qin Ling, which is the geographical watershed of the north China and South China. There are many forest reserve under the national protection. And the hotspring in Shaanxi Province is also very famous, besides the Huaqing Pool in Xi'an, there are many hotsprings in the city around Xi'an, just like the He Chuan hotspring in HanCheng city.
As one of the oldest city in China, Xi'an had been found as the capital for a duration about more than 1500 years, so the mausoleums of the ancient emperors are worth visiting too.
It's hard to introduce you all the places in such a limited space, but it's really deserve to come and visit.
my MSN is jcqueen1110@hotmail, if you have any question , It'smy pleasure to give you useful information.

I am going to Xian on the 4th March next year, is it better to have a hotel in the centre of Xian, to visit all the tourist places. and will it be cold?
would I be able to find an interpreter for 3 days.
thank you

Sep. 28,2009 04:11
Mrs.Diana replied:

Xi'an's March is getting warmer and warmer day by day. Usually, a thin sweater or tee-shirt with a jackiet is enough. Like every cities in north China, the weather during this period is not valid sometimes. So you'd better pay attention to the forecast.

What can we do at nights? Is the streets near the Shuyuan gates open at night and is it safe for us to go out at night?

Sep. 14,2009 07:28
Mr.Musa(china) replied:

Hi there this is so cool to walk around the Xian at the night..

Sep. 17,2009 03:12
Ms.Gigi replied:

Most shops in Shuyuanmen Street will be closed at night. However, there are many places you can have your nightlife in Xian. The Dove Lane with kinds of night bars are very popular for foreign travelers. It is safe to go out at night in Xian, however, sometimes the pickpocket and thief cases occur.

Mrs.Reneigh(USA)said:

Is it easy to get around Xi’an. We speak English only.
We are thinking about riding the train from Beijing to Zian to see the Terracota Soldiers and then to Hong Kong that night? Does this sound like it will work?

Sep. 16,2009 04:21
Mr.Shan replied:

You'd better have an English guide since lots of locals, drivers...understand little English. Your trip sounds availabel but tired. If you arrive in Xian early in the morning around 8am then you could take the tour special line 5 at the east square of the railway station to the Terracotta. Later, you could return to Xian around 2pm or 3pm. Also at the railway station, you could find the shuttle to the airport.

Ms..Jane(USA)said:

We took the Y5(游5) tour bus at the railway station to the Huaqing hot spring and then the terra cotta warriors and horse with a fare of RMB7 per head. That's really reasonable for a 30-mins journey. If you are considering a budget, please rely on the city's buses. No hiring cab or taxi is needed at all!

Sep. 11,2009 03:54
Mr.Bala(Malaysia) replied:

Hi, is RMB7 through U-5 bus is for one time ride, I mean let say i take the bus from railway station and get off at Terracotta warrior, then can i use the same ticket to go to other destination again, or i need to buy another ticket. Thanks.
