Traveling by a road through one of the world's oldest and most historically important trade routes, and the communication this route represented has influenced deeply on the cultures of China, Central Asia and the West. Since the modern communications of the east and the west have long been replaced by more efficient and quick ways, the spirit and courage of our forefathers of East & West trade should be remembered forever. However, this itinerary is far away from the starting point and ending point of the Silk Road!

It is not easy to travel in China as a Vegetarian. China has a lot of wonderful vegetables and fruits. But Chinese people think, that when you eat in a restaurant you should eat some meat. Even, when you say, you do not want to eat meat, they think, it is allowed to have just a bit of meat in your vegetable dish. If you really want a vegetarian meal, my advice is to say, you are a Buddhist. Then they understand, that you do not want meat at all. Nevertheless, there are wonderful vegetarian restaurants in Buddhist temples and in the big cities. They serve delicious food like "chicken with peanuts" oder "sweet and sour pork", which is all made of tofu or mashed potatoes. You can even drink an alcohol free beer there.
