Silk Road in July

Xiahe is very interesting. Well worth the trip. Loads of tibetans and beautiful scenery. Quite cool though once there was no sun. I stayed at the overseas tibetan hostel which was 20 rmb for a dorm bed. I tried to do the bike ride to the Sangke grasslands but you had to pay a fee about 7km from Xiahe. It was pouring rain and I was cold and wet by the time I got there so I didn't even ask how much just turned around. The ride was very easy though and scenic so I recommend it to anyone that in better weather.

I had such an incredible time in Ningxia that this one bad experience really is very small, but I feel it's worth telling.

At the bus station in Gu Yuan I was charged double fare for my bus ticket to Yin Chuan. California (TCG member) paid 70rmb and I was required to pay 140rmb... simply because I am a foreigner. On my ticket was the symbol ? (wai) for foreigner.

Fortunately Cali was as annoyed by this as I was and kindly argued my case for a considerable amount of time with the manager, who eventually refunded me 70rmb. Fair play to him.
