Tianshui on Silk Road

Tianshui Airport is 15 kilometers from the downtown area. There are direct flights to Lanzhou and Xi'an on every Tuesday and Thursday. The train station is located at the north part of Maiji District, which is one of the two districts of Tianshui. The other is the Qinzhou District where the county seat is situated. A bus No. 6 which is available at the exit of the railway station can take travelers to the Qinzhou District in around 40 minutes/ CNY2.00 net. Taxis in Tianshui are very convenient. Taxi fares here are considered to be much cheaper than in other cities. A Tianshui taxi charges CNY5.00 for the first three kilometers, and CNY1.00 for each extra kilometer. The rent charge for hiring a local taxi is around CNY150.00 net per day.

On the first day, visit the Yuquan Taoist Temple, the Fuxi Temple, the Nanguo Temple and the Hu Family's compound. Yuquan Taoist Temple has been a significant Taoist shine in Tianshui from ancient time. Located at Mt. Liang, Qinzhou District, the temple can be accessed by bus No.3. (Admission fee: CNY5.00 net per person). Fuxi Temple in Tianshui is the largest memorial in China which is built for people to express their worship to Fuxi, a legendary primogenitor in China's history. It is at the Fuxi Road, Qinzhou District and there is an entrance fee of CNY5.00. Occupying an area of 5.7 hectares, the Nanguo Temple, 2 kilometers north of the city, is renowned as the greatest temple in Tianshui. The Hu Family's compound is a building complex with distinctive features of the Ming and Qing Dynasty. It is located on Minzhu Road, Qinzhou District.


Buddhist Statues in Maiji Grotto Scenic Area, Gansu

The second day's tour will lead travelers to the Maiji Grotto Scenic Area and Xianren Cliff Scenic Zone. The Maiji Grotto Scenic Area, 50 kilometers southeast of the city, is one of the most famous grottos in China. It houses more than 7000 statues and the fresco of nearly 1000 square meters. (Admission fee: CNY70.00 per person). In the afternoon, rent a minibus to Xianren Cliff Scenic Zone, which is 17 kilometers from Maiji. (Admission fee: CNY15.00 per person)

On the next morning, visit the Shimen Mountain, where there are around 20 buildings with Ming and Qing Dynasty characteristics, splendid and majestic. (Admission fee: CNY16.00 per person). In the afternoon, visit the Jieting Old Town which is also located in the Maiji District.

Elephant Mountain and the Grotto Complex of Shuilian (Water Curtain) Cave are recommended on the fourth day. Elephant Mountain, around 80 kilometers northwest of the Tianshui city, is famous for its Sakyamuni Buddha, made from mud (Admission fee: CNY15.00 per person). The Grotto Complex of Shuilian Cave with a history of about 1600 years was a noted temple on the ancient Silk Road. It consists of 5 sections of Laqiao Temple, Shuilian Cave, Qianfo Cave, Xiangsheng Pool, and Sanqing Cave.
