Travel to Kunming - Lujiang - Luoping - Kunming

Luliang County is located in the eastern part of Yunnan Province, about 130 kilometers (80 miles) away from Kunming. You can get there by either train or bus and the transfer only takes about 2.5 hours. (You can refer to the above Kunming package tours for Kunming itineraries. )

The 25 square kilometers (6177 acres) Colorful Sand Forest, known as one of the world's geographic wonders, is at 15 kilometers (9 miles) southeast of Luliang County. Thousands of years' wind and rain erosion accomplished this unique geographical structure. As the name suggests, the miscellaneous red, yellow, white, green, blue, black and gray, together with the season, climate and sunshine makes it a well-known geological tourism landscape. Colorful Sand Forest is award in year 2000 for the country "AAAA" class tourist scenic spot.

The admission fee is CNY40.00 and if you need a guide, an extra CNY30.00 is needed. Walking along the circling and tortuous path, you will find the exquisite works of art left by the Sand Sculpture Festivals. They are dexterously built among the sand wall, sand pillar, sand channel and sand valley, make one feels like in a fantasy.

Food and souvenir can be easily purchased in the scenic area. After a half day strolling in the sand forest, you can rest yourself at the local guesthouse in Luliang County. Exploring the county in the afternoon and getting closer to the daily of Chinese people.

Beautiful Luoping Village

The next morning, take a bus to Luoping which is 110 kilometers (68 miles) to the south. If you go there in February or March, you will meet the fabulous Luoping Rape Flower Cultural Tourism Festival. In 2002, the dozens of thousands of rape flower fields was awarded the title of "the world's largest natural Garden (rape plantations)" by the headquarters of the Guinness World Records in Shanghai. That is the grand view that one can only imagine.

After arrival at Luoping County, first we suggest you take the shuttle buss to the Nine Dragon Waterfall Group which is 22 kilometers (13 miles) northeast and also a country "AAAA" class tourist scenic spot. It is considered the most fascinating part of Nine-dragon River. The waterfall group is comprised of 10 levels of Waterfalls with different width and height. It always has a magnificent appearance all the year round but brings you absolutely different enjoyment in different seasons. You can find many local guesthouse near the bus station and the standard room is about CNY60.00 per room per night.

After a night rest, you may head to the Duoyihe River Scenic Area in the morning which is only one hour's driving distance. The Duoyihe River is 12 kilomters (7 miles) long with over 40 waterfalls, folded water and calcified beaches. And you will see the Waterwheel Museum which presents the history of the waterwheel development and the categories.

In the afternoon, catch the bus back to Kunming and you will be there in about 4 hours.
