Jokhang Temple, Lhasa

Day 02Lhasa

In the morning, you will tour the Drepung Monastery, one of the six largest monasteries of Gelugpa in Tibetan Buddhism and one of the 'Three Great Monasteries' in Lhasa. The row upon row of white buildings of this large-scale monastery have carpeted the hillside, resembling a heap of rice, hence the named Drepung Monastery, literally 'Rice Heap' monastery in Tibetan language. Then, visit one of the biggest and best Carpet Factories in Tibet, where you will see the experienced weavers using old-style vertical looms weaving carpets in different sizes, styles and patterns. After lunch, you will go ahead to visit Tibet Museum, which is endowed with strong Tibetan flavor and rich in cultural treasures. It is a miniature of Tibetan culture and history. The last travel destination today is the Norbulingka Park, which is opposite Tibet Museum. Norbulingka, also called the 'Summer Palace of Lhasa', was once the summer resort for successive Lamas where they handled the political affairs and held festive celebrations.

Day 03Lhasa

This morning, you will explore the magnificent Potala Palace and the Sera Monastery. Initially built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in 7th century to greet his bride Princess Wen Cheng, the Potala Palace has been expanded several times afterwards. The present palace mainly consists of two parts: the Red Palace as the center which has been completely devoted to religious study and Buddhist prayer; the White Palace as two wings, once served as the office building of Tibet local government and the living quarters. The next stop Sera Monastery is not as large as the Drepung Monastery, but has its own unique architecture style. Upon entering it, you will see a picture of the golden roof shinning under the clearly blue sky. After lunch, you will proceed to the 'heart of Lhasa', Jokhang Temple, which possesses an unchallengeable supremacy in Tibetan Buddhism. It is a wooden complex which combines the architectural styles of Tibet, Han, India and Nepal of its time. Then, continue your trip to the thriving bazaar of the Barkhor Street, a ring-shaped road around the Jokhang Temple. You will see many pilgrims around, as well as shops and stands selling Tibetan local souvenirs here. The last site you will visit today is the Tibetan Traditional Medicine Hospital. As one of the oldest medical traditions in the world, Tibetan medical tradition has developed its own unique healing practices. You will get some insights by visiting the hospital.

Ganden Monastery, Lhasa

Day 04Lhasa

Afterwards, you will be driven back to Lhasa and visit a Tibet family to get a deeper understanding of the local's lifestyle and customs.

If you are not interested in the above arranged day tour, we will arrange a tour to the Namtso Lake and the quotation will be offered upon your enquiry. The Namtso Lake is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, which is famous for its high altitude, vast area and beautiful lake scenery.

That is not a big problem. Find a good hotel to stay, not a hostel and inn. You could get purifying or mineral drinking water in supermarkets of Tibet.

Dear Sir
Im planing a trip to Tibet from Nepal , please inform me should I apply for regular visa of china in Tehran or I can do it in Kathmandu ?

Mr.Lin replied:   0  0

You need to apply for China Visa in your country first, but after your arrival in Nepal, you will have to stay in Katmandu for about 3 working days to get the stamped visa. The procedure is very complicated. Also, for visiting Tibet, you should hold a Tibet Travel permit besides a China tourist visa .

My wife and I are planning a vacation to Lhasa in June 2010. We are USA residents living in New York City, USA. I can get the Tibet visa from the Chinese consulate in New York City. Can you provide us with the Tibet Alien Travel Permit. We need not leave Lhasa during our stay in Tibet. We do not require a booking on one of your tours. Please advise about how you may provide us with the Tibet permit and its cost. Thank you. Robert Camillieri

The travel agent could provide you the Tibet Travel Permit unless you book the tour with them. Otherwise, they cannot apply that for you.
