Both Buddhism and Hinduism are prevailing in Nepal. And as a scrupulous religion-oriented people, they are apt to carry out the rituals at all times everywhere. As a matter of fact, the religion transforms itself for people as well as restrains people's behavior. Traveling from Nepal to Tibet and then to the mainland China, you may see two or more forms of Buddhism flaming in their own style and every one of them will just convulse you with deep thought of life. As noted, you will find it VERY expensive and inconvenient to travel from Nepal to Tibet and then into China.

Several problems with this routing. First, any Chinese visa will be cancelled in Nepal and you will have to purchase a new group entry visa for China. These are limited to 21 or 28 days. If you are lucky and insist you might get a group visa for one, just for you but there are no guarantees. Next, this visa is NOT renewable in Tibet so depending upon how long you were planning to travel in Tibet, you might have problems. And finally, getting this particular type of visa changed to an individual tourist visa which can then be extended is NOT guaranteed and many people who try at the first town or city outside of Tibet are rejected and only get 10 days extension, enough time to reach the nearest border out of China.

We have just finished a tour from Katmandu to Lhasa, the tour is perfect but only one thing we feel disappointed. My wife and I leave in Hongkong and we have business in Shanghai frequently, the China Visa we have is multi-enter visa, but when we enter Lhasa from Katmandu, they said it is must that the visa should be stamped in Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Our previous visa was not valid and must be canceled and again should be issued in Kathmandu itself. We have no other choice but only have to cancel
our visa, the new visa only covers the period of our tour in China, we have to apply for a new multi-visa when back to Hongkong.

If you also interested in the tour from Katmandu to Lhasa, I suggest you take tour with a reversed way, that is, go from Lhasa to Katmandu, then, there will be no problem on visa issue. Or, you just do not need to apply for a China Visa, you can apply for that from Katmandu.
