How do we deal with the altitude problems when we travel in Tibet, Pasum Tso - Bayi - Tongmai- Bomi - Rawo ? What is the average temperature during the night and day during our stay in Nyingchi , Pasum Tso, Bayi, etc. in May when we travel ?

Sep. 8,2009 19:24
Mr.Jason replied:

Usually the hotels have oxygen tanks in the room. You can pay to buy it if you need it. After you arrive in Lhasa, you’d better spare one day to have a good rest without any activities, to acclimatize yourself to the high altitude. Before you enter Tibet, you also need to consult your doctor to make sure you are healthy enough to visit there.

In May, the highest temperature is about 15 ℃ and the lowest temperature usually is minus 2 ℃ or 3 ℃. There is a sharp difference during the day time and night, so it’s good to bring some warm clothes.

When you go to Lhasa, bring your sun block, sun glasses and hat. You will find the day time is very long, almost from 4:00 to 22:00. The sunshine is very strong and fierce. Protect your eyes and skin from being burned. Second thing is a thick jacket. Even you go in summer, you would feel some place is still very cold. Also the temperature difference during daytime and nighttime is very large. Thick jacket is needed when you wander around at night. Others you should bring is some small gifts for the children. They would love them very much even just one candy, you will get back more than just one candy.

Please let us know what temperatures we might expect in Shigatse and Gyangtse in early February.

Jul. 14,2009 04:01
Ms.Mel Quek replied:

Are you sure to travel there in February? February is very cold winter time in China. However, I have the following information to share with you.

Shigatse has a semi-arid, plateau temperate, monsoon climate. Temperatures range from a high of 23℃ (73.4F) to a low of -25℃ (-13F) with an annual average temperature of 6.3℃ (43.34F). From November to April, the temperature is quite low. The minimum temperature in Febuary may as low as - 9.5℃ and also due to the frequent wind and dry atmosphere, thus it is not a recommended time to visit.

If we have two weeks, we would want to spend at least 3 days in Tibet and go to the Everest Base etc.

Jul. 12,2009 21:27
Mr.Charles replied:

What’s your travel dates? I want to remind you that the harsh climate makes it unsuitable to visit the Everest Base Camp area from October to April. During winter, roads might be blocked by heavy snow in east Tibet and Ngari. While in August, heavy rainfall makes travel in those areas very difficult. So, what’s your travel dates?

I have an unusual situation and I am taking a chance at e-mailing you in hopes that you can help me or tell me where I might me able to locate this item I am looking for. I have searched all over the Internet and have come up empty handed. I have a nephew that collects all kinds of plastic molded animals and he has looked everywhere for a YAK. Do you know where I might find a small toy yak to somehow contact someone there to purchase? This would really make this little one very happy. Thank you so much for any help or direction you might give me in getting a YAK for him.

For Tibet, do we need to bring sleeping bags, or is all bedding provided and clean?

Jun. 18,2009 02:48
Mr.Zamba(China, TIBET) replied:

Do you mean hiking by yourself? Or take the normal tour arranged by the travel agency? If you do not need to camp outside, there is no need for you to bring sleeping bags. Although the local conditions in some places of Tibet are not very good, the hotels could provide rooms with clean articles.
