Among all the 1,394 million domestic tourists in 2006, 576 million
were urban residents and 818 million were rural residents, 15%
up from last year.
China's tourism received an income of 622.974 billion yuan from
domestic tourists, increased 17.9% from the previous year. Of the
total, 441.474 billion yuan were earned from urban residents and
181.5 billion yuan from rural inhabitants.
Domestic tourists spent an average of 446.9 yuan each on their
travels, up 2.5% from 2005. Urban people spent an average of 766.4
yuan while rural residents spent an average of 221.9 yuan each.
In the peak periods of tourism, like the Spring Festival, Labor
Day (May Day) and the Chinese National Day each with one week of
holidays, the 357 million domestic tourists brought the tourism
revenue of 151.2 billion yuan.
